If you can believe it, that's all her natural hair!
No extensions. No hair color.

We spend a very important day together,
waking up early, caffinating, crying,
curling & spraying...
And then a lot of times our lives continue on our separate ways once my job is done.

I probably wouldnt be doing hair if it weren't for this woman right here... Julia Gonzales.

My grandma Julia actually got her cosmetology license but instead of following that dream she took care of my father, my uncle, my grandfather, and me. Along with everyone else that she loved.
She was devoted to giving us everything we absolutely needed at any hour of the day.

Being her only grandchild and the only girl, I had it made. I was her little doll. Even though the only girly thing i liked was barbies, she still managed to dress me up.
She only bought the best skincare and the best hair products. No one but her knew what her Nordstrom or Macy's credit card bills were, but hey, she looked great all the time.

She toured Paul Mitchell Academy with me, and since thats what we used at home, her eyes sparkled the whole time we were there. I honestly probably wouldn't have gone there if it werent for her.
She was the first person I gave a perm to, and my most consistent perm customer.

POV you finally get your summer hair!
I met Alessia when she walked into @salonorchardnyc after a mishap where her hair turned a dark dusty rose. We fixed that and conquered the world with this creamy platinum card baby blonde a week later.
Normally I wouldnt advise we do back to back services the way we did, but we had allllll day to go low and slow.
And thats exactly what we did.
Was I nervous because she has soo much hair?
Yes.
But clearly that hair is strong as a mf, just LOOK AT HOW LONG IT GETS!
Was I nervous because we just balayaged it 7 days ago?
Yes.
But we did every section slowly. Applying and rinsing each section with a total of 5 sections.
I was not gunna screw this up!

If you have sat in my chair, you've already heard my opinion on oils and heavy proteins/keratin products, but here's a reminder.

When hair is already brittle, shoving heavy processed proteins is not going to fix your hair.
Its actually going to snap!
What I like to call "man made" proteins force them selves into the hair shaft, pushing out everything in its way, even the good stuff.

OILS coat the hair making it feel shiny and supple, but actually block hydrating products from being absorbed by the hair shaft. This eventually does the opposite of what you want it to do, and dehydrated your hair causing ultra dryness.

If your are using any of these types of products I recommend starting with a clarifying shampoo to start removing the oils that your hair is smothered in for a few washes. Then switching to one of the shampoos and leave in conditioners on the last slide.

The one thing I will never do again...
NOT GET MY ROOTS DONE B4 VACATION!

I thought I wasn't going to care what
I looked like or what my hair was giving
since I didn't know anyone in Barcelona....
And though that WAS mostly true in the moment,
I cant help but feel a type of way when looking back at the photos where the first thing
I notice is 4 inches of roots!!!

I sit here and look for cute photos to post
and all its all I see😩
I supplemented with the one hat I brought and
my bandana but on top of not having hair tools to use in spain, and forgetting to pack proper products, my hair was struggling.

So, LESSON LEARNED!

Was the trip great, yes it was magical, life changing, thrilling even.
But being the hairdresser I am of fifteen years, never again.

Did anyone one else say anything about my hair? No. But I said it to myself every day I was there, never again am I not getting my roots done b4 a trip!! taken in Barcelona, España by @ilovekorynn

This is Chris and her 9-5, totally office appropriate, hair color.
Then after 5pm on any given day, you will find her crowd surfing at your local hard-core show.

Its called balance and we needed her haircolor to prove that.

This is Sarah.
Sarah didnt have bangs when she walked in.
Sarah walked out with some BANGIN bangs.

The best part about bangs is they form to your face... when cut right!

And they grow! They are actually less of a commitment than you think!
