my new song "oakwood room" is out now on my sc. It is produced by @3ashluv2012 and @everything_i_surrendered
I wrote it in the attic of my grandfather's house earlier this month which is the room I slept in the night my father died, hence why I had trouble sleeping for days. on my dad's birthday, my grandpa told me the story of Philemon and Baucis, an elderly couple from the Greek mythology, who were turned into an oak and a linden tree after their death as a reward for their hospitality towards Zeus and Hermes.
no other death, he remarked, could ever be desirable to him, so every piece of oakwood he, as the Philemon in his own book, touched, meant the world and more to him, hence why he filled his house with all types of items crafted from the material and kept a photo of a painting of Baucis and Philemon with him at all times.
as I sat in that oakwood room in the night my dad would have turned 59 and grieved, I thought about how strange it was that the creeky door, the towering closet and the stuffy and hot air, as haunting as they were to me, could resemble the ultimate form of love and a death with the utmost dignity to somebody else this close to me.
the room in the cover is totally unrelated. make of that what you want.
thank you for listening. by @ilyconvinced
