🇨🇻💙 They said we had a 1% chance… but we came with 99% faith.

From the islands to the world. 🌍🇨🇻

This was my first futebol (soccer) match, and there was no other team I’d rather stand behind than our Tubarões Azuis. But this weekend was about so much more than the game.

One thing I’ve always carried with me, no matter where I’ve gone, who I’ve met, or what room I’ve walked into, is that Ami e Kriola. 🇨🇻

Being Cape Verdean isn’t just where I’m from, it’s who I am. It’s my roots. It’s my history. It’s the culture that raised me, shaped me, and continues to live within me every single day.

To see our flag flying proudly on one of the world’s biggest stages… to hear our language, our music, our chants… to witness thousands of us united as one it was something I’ll never forget.

And let this be a reminder…

There is no single way to look Cape Verdean.

We come in every shade of melanin.
Our skin may be light, golden, brown, or deep.
Our hair may be straight, wavy, curly, coily, or kinky.
Our eyes may be light or dark.

Yet every single one of us carries the same pride, the same resilience, and the same love for our homeland.

Being Kriola is not defined by one look.

It is the way we speak.
The rhythm that lives in our bones.
The music that has flowed through our veins since birth.
The food that brings our families together.
The strength we’ve inherited.
The passion with which we love.
The way we dance through every celebration and every storm.

This weekend reminded me that our culture is beautiful because it is diverse.

We are one people.
One flag.
One culture.
One heart.

Forever proud to be Kriola.

Nu Baiiiii Cabo Verde! 🦈💙🇨🇻
