We’re proud to announce our next event in partnership with @love.camden , as part of Black History Season 2026, under the theme of “Honouring Our Communities”.

Caribbean legacy is in motion — carried not through repetition, but through reinvention. A new generation of Caribbean-voices are building the next chapter: in film, in policy, in sound, in the everyday decision to show up as themselves. This isn’t a look back. It’s proof of where the culture is heading next.

This also marks Inherited Light’s first live dialogue: an exclusive screening of unseen footage, followed by a panel discussion inside the very room where Notting Hill Carnival’s foundations were laid — the Claudia Jones Room in the Camden Town Hall.

The panel conversation brings together three Caribbean-heritage trailblazers across film, policy and music, exploring how creativity, enterprise and community leadership are shaping the next chapter of Caribbean presence in the UK.

6/6 — Morning Assembly ft @shaycasanova · 🇯🇲

There is a confidence that comes from Jamaican culture. It is in the way people take up space without apology.

Shay carries that energy into everything he creates — and onto everything he wears.

The look started with Jamaican school Kharki uniform. Then came the custom shoes he makes himself. And then the bogul (Gromment) belt — his mother’s influence, small but important detail.

What Jamaican culture gave Shay is simple: Be daring. Be unapologetic. Be the best version of yourself — His parents left Jamaica and came to the UK so that he could build something new. Shay takes that seriously. The boldness is not aesthetic.

5/6 Inherited Style — Madras Fabric ft @indii45 · 🇱🇨

To live in a diaspora body is to always be carrying something. A language you speak differently at home than outside.

A food that smells like somewhere else. A piece of fabric you keep close because it is the most honest answer to the question of where you are from.

For Indira, that piece is Madras. The traditional dress of Saint Lucia — a fabric that began in Chennai, India, travelled through Portugal, through Africa, and arrived in the Caribbean carrying centuries of migration in its weave.

She always has a piece of it with her. It is her anchor. Her proof of origin. The thing that reminds where it belongs, even when everything else is in translation.

Fully embracing her diaspora backdrop, Indira carries this fabric with pride. A scarf. A detail. It is kind of known for her now.

4/6 — The Emerald Isle ft @gloriasimon2563 · 🇲🇸

Growing up with her grandmother and great-grandmother in Montserrat shaped Gloria in ways she is still discovering. When she styled herself for this shoot, she was chasing that feeling — trying to bottle something from a childhood that feels both close and far away.

Montserrat is the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. An island that celebrates St. Patrick’s Day as a national holiday. A people whose history is braided from African roots and Irish colonial ties. St. Patrick's Day in Montserrat is about Black people, people of African descent, and their courage in fighting for freedom. Not just on this island. Beyond it.

That is what Gloria is wearing. The green is not decorative. The white is not simple. Every piece — the Caribbean print scarf, the green braided through her silver locs, the bangles that catch the light — is a piece of that history on her body.

Nothing casual. Just pride, worn exactly the way it should be.

3/6 — Wob Dwiyet ft @riannapatterson · 🇩🇲🇬🇭

The Wob Dwiyet is the national dress of Dominica. Not a costume. A living piece of cultural identity that Dominican women have worn to church, to independence celebrations, to every moment that demands you show up as your full self.

Rianna first wore hers the day she received an award from the Queen. She wore it again for this shoot.

Between those two moments, she has taken it to every occasion that mattered. Because when you wear something that does not just represent you but your entire island, something shifts in how you carry yourself.

There was a generation of Caribbeans who came to Britain dressed for arrival. Not in loud colours or tropical prints — but in crisp whites, muted tones, and the kind of quiet intention that said: I am here, I am serious, and I am going somewhere.

Antony's look carries that inheritance.

The short sleeve is Caribbean. The patternation is Caribbean. The lean is Caribbean.

The language of a generation that understood the way you present yourself was how you claimed your place in a country that was not ready to receive you.

1/6 - THE COSTUME ft. @melissasimonhartman · 🇹🇹🇬🇭

At just 7 years old, Melissa joined a mas camp at Notting Hill Carnival which sparked the beginning of her journey of making costumes to renowned luxury pieces for the likes of Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Wizkid and more.

The outfit she brought to this shoot she designed herself — built from recycled scraps and denim, materials most people would have thrown away.

Because Melissa understands Caribbean people have always made something from what remains. Our whole culture was built that way.

Taken, scattered, stripped — and then somehow, astonishingly, made into something the whole world wants to be near.

Every stitch in this outfit knows that.
