VSU Homecoming is an annual multi-day (1 week) celebration that brings together students, alumni, faculty, and surrounding community on “The Hill” to honor Trojan pride and university tradition.
NPHC Step Show & Concert: High energy performances featuring step teams competition.

The VSU Woo Woos; Virginia State University’s premier cheer squad) frequently participate in this event, linking up with other powerhouse teams like Winston-Salem University (WSSU). The competition embraces an eerie, horror-themed aesthetic, promoting teams to bring intense energy, synchronized routines, and a SPOOKY twist to their stomping and shaking.

Virginia Civil Rights Memorial. The Virginia Civil Rights Memorial is a monument commemorating protests wich helped bring about school desegregation in the state.
In 1951 the R.R.High Moton all black high school in Farmville,VA suffered from terrible conditions due to underfunding.
In response, a 16–year—old student Barbara Rose Johnson covertly organized a student general strike.
Ower 450 walked out and marched to the homes of members of the school board, who refused to see them.Thus began a two—week protest. The protest led to a court case in where Virginia civil rights lawyers suit against the school board. The case was brought before the U.S. Supreme Court alongside other cases, leading to the abolition of segregation in 1954.
The memorial was designed by Stanly Bleifeld, and in 2008 opened.

There are some truly impressive statues in Richmond,VA. Unfortunately the city is accessible from the suburbs only by car;this means missing out on much of what gives a city charm.

This statue the Richmond Slavery Reconciliation Statue.

Identical statues are in Liverpool/England, Ouidah Cotonou/Republic of Benin.
The Richmond Slavery Reconciliation Statue stays:
1486 East Main Street, Richmond,VA.
Created by Liverpool sculptor: Stephen Broadbent.
The sculpture memorialize the British, African, and American triangular trade route. Traders profited from delivering over 114,000 Africans to Virginia between the 1600’s and the American Revolution/and least 337,800 to other North American places before 1808.

The project fallowed historical apologies from Liverpool City Council and Benin’s president regarding their roles in the slave trade,as expression of regret by the Virginia General Assembly.
Profit from the sale of enslaved Africans, profit from the commodities they produced and the benefits of this product in Anglo-American lifestyles financed mayor British and North American economic development.

The City of Richmond Observation Deck on the 18th floor of Richmond,VA City Hall. Is open to the public for panoramic views of the city skyline, and free.

There are even 2 tables in the hallway if you want take a short break from sightseeing, you can enjoy the panoramic view while having a quick snack.

It is a great 👍🏻 place;I hope that one day the unadorned walls will be discovered by „muralists“ as well.

In beautiful weather, when the air and sun 🌞 feel almost crisp and the humidity is finally no longer an annoying- it’s really fun to take a few pictures.
The government district: Capitol Square is truly beautiful in Richmond. The “White House of Virginia” (It has a gorgeous park with a long, long history)

POND THEATER is a fiberglass-and-wood circular platform, what float atop the pond. With its inviting, sociable forms, the pontoon-like construction encourages sitting, playing and casual gathering.
The „Pond Theater“ designed by the Rotterdam-based design Studio OSSIDIANA. The OSSIDIANA Studio works across architecture, installation, and spatial practice, with a focus on the porous edges between built environment and living ecologies. The playfully and imaginative object is to see at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Richmond,VA.

And yet another store to enjoy: Heretick Feed&Seed in Petersburg,VA. Hardware and more…..
The store started in 1945, with Joe Heretick and has remained family-owned to this days.
They have 2 stores, one in Petersburg,VA and the other in Hopewell,VA. The stores are run by Joe‘s sons. The store in Petersburg extremely well-stocked with hardware and in the spring even carries chicks, baby chicks and feeding supplies for animals. In Hopewell, the store sells power tools and garden/yard machinery, including repair services. Great idea!
