Louisville, we’re excited to announce the first public program from Analog Louisville. A new public expanding access to analog image-making, artistic mentorship, and community storytelling by providing education, equipment, and creative opportunities.

Our first workshop, Ordinary Magic: Self-Portraiture Through Super 8 Film is a free four-week workshop inviting Black women and gender-expansive folks in Louisville, KY to explore self-portraiture through the materiality of celluloid.

Participants will learn to shoot on Super 8 film while developing a personal creative practice rooted in observation, experimentation, and storytelling. Each participant will receive access to a Super 8 camera, film stock, processing, and mentorship throughout the workshop. The program will conclude with a public screening celebrating the completed films.

At Analog Louisville, we believe analog practices remain essential tools for creativity, memory, and community. Through education, preservation, publishing, and artist support, we’re working to build a home for analog arts and culture in Louisville.

We’re deeply grateful to the @kyfound4women for providing the founding support that made this inaugural program possible.

Description:
Between Starshine and Clay shifts the coffin from a site of burial into a structure of passage. Drawing on symbols of protection, chance, and exchange, the work considers how Black life has moved through systems designed to contain it.

A ten-minute video and sound loop extends the installation through personal and collective archival material. With narration by Colia Liddell Lafayette Clark woven among other voices, the film unfolds through embodied ritual, retracing a passage from Mississippi to Senegal and folding memory into broader currents of migration and return. taken in Stanford University by @imaninikyah

The opening reception for our 1st year MFA show is this Thursday, Feb 12th from 4pm-6pm. I’m so excited and honored to be presenting, Between Starshine & Clay, a new video installation alongside sculptural work. It’s been an exciting experiment but grateful to be trying new things.
