i’m so behind on the posts i want to put up but i feel like i often have to remind myself to relieve the pressure i put on myself with this account, i started it because it’s fun and i love the community and being able to yap about my favourite books. i suppose sometimes i just tend to lose sight of that.

i think i’ll give a mini reading update here too, i’m currently reading the second book in the divergent series and i’ve been really enjoying it. i think so far i definitely still prefer the first book in the series but i’m also looking forward to watching the movies after i finish reading the series, so i can spot all the differences. i don’t know if anyone else does this too but i just think it’s a fun way to see how the medium of media can change the messages portrayed or which things were later edited and tweaked when given a chance to revise and change things.

about a week ago, i saw my lovely amazing best friend noura, who some of you may know. i want to put a post up about our bookish day together so you’ll be seeing that soon.

and as for me, back off to uni i go, but hopefully there will be a lot more reading this time round, alongside the academics. that is, if i can find a way to accommodate reading into my schedule, even if it isn’t for hours on end like how i usually like to read.

i was lucky enough to receive an arc for this book, which i thoroughly enjoyed.

synopsis:
in the island of Winter is bound to a curse which affects each individual differently. the blood of the curseless is the only cure, which Princess Lidya has flowing through her veins.
in order to find another cure that will not require her sacrifice, Lidya must partner up with her academic rival. she must tolerate him in order to cure her sister.

review:

the concept of her blood being a cure is so interesting. i loved the relationship between Lidya and her sister Gwendolyn. this book explores how far Lidya is able to go for those she loves and her desire to free herself from the life and expectations placed upon her as a Princess. Lidya’s longing for a life unobserved, beyond the walls of her castle which have begun to feel like a fortress resonated with me. i sympathised with her for wanting more than a life of constant performance and responsibilities, with pressure that she was always reminded to appreciate. just because others envied her life, it doesn’t mean that her lack of autonomy was pleasant.
i also enjoyed the complexity of Lidya’s relationship with her mother and how love can be twisted into something that resembles hatred out of a need for control.

within this story, history has been twisted, and the truth of the past is revealed, which continues to haunt them.

Lidya and her academic rival, Phoenix, have entwined fates, and she is constantly warned not to get too close to him. despite her best efforts, she finds herself craving his company. their bickering is seemingly endless, though we still don’t completely know exactly what is keeping them apart. i suppose that this would be revealed in further books.
if you like fabled stories and creatures, a slow burn and angry confessions in the rain; i think you’d enjoy this one too. by @imanispages

i was inspired to do this challenge after reading the tales of arcana fortune where they go through 7 fairytales in 7 nights, and then saw a youtube video by @aminasnotokay where she read 7 books in 7 days!! i thought, that seems pretty fun, and it was!
for transparency’s sake i will say i didn’t read a full book every day, because i didn’t want to stress myself out when the challenge was meant to be fun, so i figured as long as i read them all over 7 days, i could read as much or little as i want each day!

if you’re still reading this i say you should try it! it’s very fun and you can always pick shorter books for the days you’re busy or don’t feel like reading. by @imanispages

wow! stephanie garber really does never miss.

caraval is an entrancing and magical series which holds a truly special place in my heart. i really wish i could get a letter with an invitation to take part. stephanie garber really has a way of making me believe in fairytales again. she has a beautiful way of reminding you that your life is your own to shape as you please, regardless of everything you cannot control.

“every person has the power to change their fate if they are brave enough to fight for what they desire more than anything.”

and as much as we’ve all heard the famous line to not get too swept away by caraval and to remember that it is only a game, it was impossible to believe that it’s only a book whilst reading. the writing was truly captivating. i also really loved scarlett’s dress and how it seemed to have a personality and mind of its own. i also adore scarlett and donatella both as main characters, as they both have their own charms to them.

i absolutely adored the romance between scarlet and julian, and also between donatella and legend. each of these couples now hold a special place in my heart. donatella and legend truly are legendary lovers- get it? haha.. okay, anyway.

“i will love you with every bone in my body, so that even after my heart stops beating, a part of me will remain to forever love you.”

“this is my choice and i choose you, donatella. i don’t need immortality. you’re my forever.”

i think the strength of love in this series, and in once upon a broken heart, is quite a beautiful thing. regardless of the awful cards characters have been dealt, they find a way to defy all odds for those that they care about.

i think the purest form of love, is found and represented so well in this series- sisterhood. scarlett and donatella fight for each other with such ferocity that it inspires me, but it also rings true. there is no one that quite knows you like a sister, and nothing you wouldn’t achieve for their sake. by @imanispages

little life update for anyone interested:
i’ve been so inactive and on and off with this account but i find myself missing this community. i think i put too much pressure on taking perfect pictures or writing critical reviews when i just started this page for funsies! i think i took the joy out of it but im looking to start with a fresh mindset.
i think i also made posts take a lot longer than they needed to because of perfectionism, which meant i couldn’t find the time to make them during uni.

i have lots of posts planned for this summer though and i’m so glad to be back!! i love you all endlessly <3

i read this book a while back, but i still reminisce on it fondly. i really think there’s a certain type of magic rick seems to weave into his books. just because they’re children’s books, doesn’t mean that we cannot see ourselves reflected in the characters and their experiences at any given point in our lives.

the theme of this book is truly so unique and i long for the same sort of sea adventures in another book. i was surprised to find this book is so criminally underrated online in comparison to rick’s other books; in fact after searching i only found a handful of videos.

the theme of friendship as well as the beauty of the sea were just so endearing. i do admit that any found family will likely gain 5 stars from me, but i still believe each one feels uniquely different.

i do appreciate how anna (the mc) has such strong morals, managing to be just and fair despite the responsibility placed on her at such a young age. she actually reminds me of percy, i do see a lot of similarities between them.

in short, a part of my heart will always yearn to be a student at harding-pencroft academy. i think it would be fun if more people had read the book and i could ask someone what house they’re in, as easily as you could ask somebody what harry potter house they’re in, or what percy jackson cabin.. (not that anybody likely cares but i think im house orca, cabin 3 and a ravenclaw!!)

my favourite series definitely has to be the naturals, and i can’t decide whether i love not quite dead yet or house of hollow more… who says i have to decide anyway? they can both get a medal!

hi everyone!!
a (very) long awaited post is here!!
i’m posting this but i think i know very well that i’ll be lucky if i even manage to read 4 more books before the end of the year.. i’ve only read one this past month; which i’m very excited to share my annotations and a review on once i get the time to!! i’ve been really enjoying the lotus key and i’m so fortunate to have received a free e-copy! the magic system is so unique and i love the south asian representation, i’m surprised to have not heard anyone talk about this book before!
that’s about it for reading updates, so onto life updates?

sorry for my hiatus, but i never expected uni to be so busy, life’s been hectic and i’ve gotten sick far too many times already. trying to balance work and find new friends has been harder than i thought it would be… i like being here, the city is beautiful, i’m finally studying what i want to, and yet i feel slightly disconnected from the world, like i’m somehow behind in every aspect. i know it’s true that comparison is the thief of joy but i find myself wondering a lot lately, what is it that i’m doing wrong? i keep telling myself that i just need time to adjust but it’s been almost two months now and i’m beginning to wonder if i’ll always feel this way.

the crisp autumn leaves will start to fade soon as we slip into winter, a gentle reminder that time moves on regardless of our wishes. i hope that november brings us all some clarity and moments of happiness. don’t forget to take care of yourself as it gets colder so you don’t lose all your whimsy!! i fear i am a little guilty, and in the words of beabadoobee, “when it gets colder, i care less about me.”

mid september dump!! + some snippets of my new room and solitaire annotations

i can’t believe how fast time has gone, and that im actually here sitting in my uni room. summer has slipped away and now i’m left with rainy days. soon the leaves will fall, and i’ll be taking pictures of every tree along the way.

i haven’t had time to read a single page in the past 2 weeks, but im hoping that will change soon.

sept wrap up will probably be very underwhelming but we’ll see!! maybe i’ll have to do some sort of reading challenge if i can find the time. i’m not really sure what else to say, so i’ll leave it on this question:
