I am beyond proud to share that my brother @zanekarram and @kelseykee ’s thesis film, Strangers on Our Land, won Best Documentary at the BAFTA Student Awards. @baftaus @bafta The film investigates the killing of Raymond Mattia, a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation, by U.S. Border Patrol outside his home in May 2023. But more than an investigation, it is an intimate portrait of Raymond, his family, and a community fighting to preserve its sovereignty, traditions, and right to exist freely on its own ancestral land.I have watched how much care, patience, and responsibility Zane and Kelsey brought to telling this story. Through the memories of the people who loved him, the film honors him as a brother, a friend, an artist, a community leader, and a keeper of Tohono O’odham traditions.This recognition is so deeply deserved, but I know the greatest honor for them has been the trust Raymond’s family and community placed in them. I am incredibly proud of the filmmakers they are and the integrity with which they approached this work.Congratulations, Zane. What an extraordinary accomplishment. Happy 3rd Birthday to our girl, Roux!!In 2023, we were took home a very sick and skinny puppy who was recovering from parvo. Thankfully, @angelcitypits rescued her and supplied her with all the expensive treatments and resources she needed to survive. When we took her home, they made sure we had everything we needed to continue her treatment. She’s grown up to be the most joyful, loving, spunky, strong, road-trip loving pup and has been such a blessing.More doggies need the support that Roux got, but that takes $$$$.
