I never chose for Iman to stay in a nursing home. I fought every step of the way to bring him home.

After his accident, I was trying to visit him, advocate for him, and bring him back to our family. Instead, I was prevented from seeing him, and he remained in a nursing facility while I continued fighting through every legal and medical avenue available to me.

When I finally gained the legal authority to bring him home, I did exactly that. Once he was back with us in Washington, he was surrounded by his wife and children again.

So the question isn’t why he was in a nursing home. The question is why he remained there after he wanted to leave and why it took such a long fight to get him home. If this story touches your heart, please help us make sure it reaches more people.

I wish it were that simple.

In Iman’s case, we involved everyone we could think of—Adult Protective Services, the Ombudsman, law enforcement, state agencies, attorneys, and the courts. We had Power of Attorney. We later obtained a conservatorship. None of it stopped the isolation.

We were told to be patient. We were told to follow the process. We were told there was nothing anyone could do.

Meanwhile, Iman was separated from the people he loved and repeatedly asked to come home.

I’m not saying don’t call the state or the police. Absolutely document everything and report it. But families need to know that getting agencies involved does not always mean your loved one will be protected.

That was one of the hardest lessons I learned fighting for Iman. by @imans_voice

🥹💕 Nevaeh’s Senior Pictures — Part 1! 🎓🌸

Y’all, she’s really growing up on us! 😭❤️ Just look at how BEAUTIFUL my baby girl is!

I swear I blinked, and the little girl I was raising turned into this gorgeous young lady right before my eyes.

Senior year, cheerleading, ASB treasurer, working a job, and making memories she’ll carry forever. I’m so incredibly proud of the young woman she’s becoming.

It’s bittersweet because I wish her daddy were here to see all of this. I know Iman would be so proud of his baby girl. ❤️🕊️

As her mama, I’m trying to soak up every moment because I know this chapter is going to fly by.

Class of 2027, here comes my baby! 🎓💐

I wish I had videos of Iman making his music back in the day. ❤️‍🩹

Everybody used to come to our house to record. No matter where we lived, we always had a garage or a room that somehow turned into a studio. 😂🎶 Music was just part of our home.

Now I’m sitting here watching our sons do the exact same thing. Building their own studio, making music, creating their own little space to record.

It’s so surreal.

Especially watching our youngest, because I met his dad when we were around that same age. Sometimes I look at him and see so much of Iman that it takes me right back.

They probably just see themselves building a studio.

I see their dad. I see our younger years. I see history repeating itself through our sons. 🥹❤️

Man, I wish I could show Iman this. He would be so proud.
