An evening at Greystone, with Park Elm

Last week, we joined An Evening with the Mayor at Greystone Mansion, representing Park Elm alongside so many of the people and businesses that make up this little corner of LA. Work, familiar faces, a beautiful setting, and a glimpse into what’s ahead for Beverly Hills. Nights like this are a good reminder of how much is happening here ✨ taken in Graystone Mansion Beverly Hills by @imanybalver

100 years of LA architecture, one decade at a time. From Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House to “The One” in Bel Air… this city has never agreed on what luxury looks like & that’s kind of the point !

____
#LosAngelesRealEstate #ArchitectureHistory #LAHomes #luxuryrealestate #architecture

1920s Hollyhock House, Frank Lloyd Wright, 1921, East Hollywood. LA’s first icon — Mayan Revival concrete block, before “modern” had a name here.

1930s Neutra VDL Research House, Richard Neutra, 1932, Silver Lake. Neutra’s own home — built for $8,000 as a “concrete pilot project” in high-density living.

1940s Eames House, Charles & Ray Eames, 1949, Pacific Palisades. Case Study House #8 — playful, industrial, endlessly influential.

1950s Bailey House / Case Study House #21, Pierre Koenig, 1958, Hollywood Hills. Koenig’s first icon, two years before the Stahl House — steel, glass, reflecting pools.

1960s Chemosphere, John Lautner, 1960, Hollywood Hills. A flying saucer on a single pole — space-age optimism, Hollywood Hills.

1970s Gehry Residence, Frank Gehry, 1978, Santa Monica. A 1920s bungalow wrapped in chain-link and corrugated metal — the deconstructivist opening shot.

1980s Schnabel House, Frank Gehry, 1989, Brentwood. Gehry a decade later — sculptural, colorful, fully realized postmodernism.

1990s The Manor, James Langenheim & Associates, completed 1991, Holmby Hills. 56,500 sqft. The moment “iconic” started meaning scale.

2000s Fleur de Lys, Richardson Robertson III, completed 2002, Holmby Hills. Versailles, transplanted to Bel Air.

2010s 924 Bel Air Road (“The Billionaire”), built by Bruce Makowsky, completed 2016. The most expensive home ever listed in the U.S. at the time — a preview of where the market was headed.

2020s “The One,” Paul McClean, developed by Nile Niami, completed 2021. 105,000 sq ft, a nightclub, a bowling alley — and a $126M bankruptcy auction. by @imanybalver
