At my cousin’s daughters wedding in beautiful Sisters, Oregon at Black Butte Ranch. Congratulations Allison! Despite the unseasonably cooler temperatures (I’m wearing workout pants under my dress 😝), the venue was still amazing! If you’re in the area, you should check it out. Took some family photos, you can see the Cascade Mountain range in the background. #blackbutteranch taken in Black Butte Ranch, Oregon by @imatifster

Crater Lake is amazing! 🤩 Formed 7,700 years ago, it is the deepest lake in the US at 1,949 feet. The water is an intense blue. Isabelle and I hiked 🥾to the top of Garfield Peak, the elevation (approx 8,000 feet) here is similar to Macchu Picchu which made it more challenging 😳. The 3.5 mile hike had an elevation gain of 1,000 feet but the view was worth it!

The night sky is so dark that you can see the Milky Way galaxy 🌌. So breathtaking! It does get cold 🥶 here at night though. #craterlake #oregon taken in Crater Lake National Park by @imatifster

A tale of two coasts. I was fortunate 🤩 enough to spend one weekend up north off the coast of Bodega Bay and the following weekend down south off the coast in Oceanside. Two different coasts, but both are beautiful in their own right.

I got to witness a feeding frenzy with hundreds of birds 🐦‍⬛ feasting on bait fish 🐟. A humpback whale 🐋 came close to shore as well as a family of sea lions 🦭I saw pelicans, seagulls, terns and cormorants diving for fish!

In Oceanside, the water was a lot warmer, and I actually was able to go boogie boarding. Lots of surfers 🏄🏻‍♂️, however the beaches 🏖️were a bit washed out due to all of the storm action but one thing both had in common were beautiful sunsets 🌅. #bodegabay #oceanside #californiacoast taken in Bodega Bay, California by @imatifster

They hype around Peruvian 🇵🇪 food is justified. Lovely presentation, fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. Tried many different types of ceviche 🐟 and had a tender loma soltado a traditional Peruvian dish, that typically combines marinated strips of sirloin 🥩with onions 🧅 , tomatoes 🍅 french fries 🍟, and other ingredients, and is typically served with rice. My favorite dish was trout from Lake Titicaca served with mashed potatoes and lima beans 🫘 so delicious! Enjoyed chilcanos made with pisco, an unaged grape brandy, and of course the infamous Pisco Sour 🍸. #chilcano #pisco #piscosour #ceviche #peruviancuisine taken in Peru by @imatifster

Visited Pachacamac, a historical and religious site built in 200 AD. Named after the god that creates earthquakes, the white shell-looking pieces on the ground are actually human bone 🦴 fragments leftover from when the Spanish raided the cemeteries and tombs here. Circling vultures overhead added to the eerie effect. Geetika and I are in front of the tallest structure, the Temple of the Sun ☀️. The SE corner was also used for sacrificial rituals.

I’m standing in front of the most well-preserved structure, Ajllawasi or Temple of the Moon 🌖 where select young women 👯‍♀️ were taught essential skills like weaving and chicha (maize 🌽 beer) brewing. Some would also be chosen for ritual sacrifice.

I found it interesting to see present-day housing next to the nearly two thousand year old ancient ruins! #pachacamac #lima #peru taken in Santuario Arqueológico de Pachacámac by @imatifster

Barranco is the artsy 🎨 district in Lima. Lots of colorful murals, galleries and restaurants 🍽️. Located along the coast, there’s always a cool breeze 🌬️ despite the humidity. Flowers 🌺 do really well out here, including hibiscus and trumpet flowers. Did you know that it contains a hallucinogen? Loved seeing the ocean 🌊 here, there’s not really a beach but it was still beautiful nonetheless. #lima #barranco #peru taken in Barranco, Lima, Peru by @imatifster

Bucket list item number eight: visiting Rainbow 🌈 Mountain ⛰️(Vinicunca). I had read about this interesting natural geological phenomenon years ago. It was discovered when a glacier had melted revealing the beautiful minerals underneath creating this striped rainbow effect. Getting there was not easy, situated at an altitude of 17,000 feet, it took over three hours from Cusco.

Due to the high altitude, your body gets taxed 😵‍💫 quite easily trying to climb to the vantage point for viewing, your thinking isn’t as clear either! Chewing coca leaves 🍃 helped. I had never realized how beautiful it would be being in the Andes mountains. There were still some glaciers present and there was snow underfoot. I paid to get a motorcycle 🏍️ ride up to the furthest point and hiked 🥾the rest of the way.

Lots of photo ops including hanging out with some llamas 🦙 who wore sunglasses 😎. It gets bright in the mountains ⛰️ lol. #vinicunca #rainbowmountain #peru taken in Rainbow Mountain Peru by @imatifster

Founded in 1200 AD, Cusco is the historic capital of Peru and the Inca Empire. Sitting at 11,000 feet it does take a day or two to acclimatize 😅. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, there’s so much history here and it’s very well-preserved. I liked 😍 Cusco so much more than Lima. The cobblestone narrow streets are charming and there are lots of artisans and crafts. I visited the Temple of the Sun ☀️ (Qoricancha) the most religious sanctuary in the Incan Empire which was subsequently raided by the Spanish in the 1500s. Was rewarded with a rainbow 🌈 after a sudden downpour. #cusco #peru taken in Cusco, Peru by @imatifster

Bucket list number seven: visiting Macchu Picchu. Situated at approximately 8,000 feet, built from local granite in the area, this hidden citadel was built around 1450. Meant to be kept as a secret 🤐 from the public, it housed Inca royalty and had around 500 - 1,000 inhabitants. The journey took a little over two hours from Urubamba, most by diesel train 🚊. You have to reserve a time to arrive and are limited to one of three circuits! Definitely want to come back and do the climb 🥾 to the upper level. #macchupicchu #peru taken in Machu Pichu by @imatifster

Nothing beats happiness like holding a baby alpaca🦙. This was at a vantage point overlooking the fertile Sacred Valley leaving Cusco. The Incas viewed the Urubamba River as a reflection of the Milky Way and considered the mountain 🏔️ peaks as sacred divine protectors. Have a mild headache 🤕 from the altitude here but drinking coca leaf 🍃 tea helped. Started at 11,000 feet and currently at 9,420 feet. Visited an alpaca center as well! #alpaca #sacredvalleyperu #llama taken in Sacred Valley of the Incas by @imatifster

Bucket list item number six: visit South America. Finally did it! I’m in Lima, Peru 🇵🇪 the capital with a population of 11m. Wonderful climate and people, horrible air quality 😷 however. Food is delicious 😋 as are the pisco cocktails 🍹. Even had one made with coca leaf 🍃! Visited the most unique ice cream 🍨 parlour called Helarte. I still need to get my ceviche fix! #lima #pisco @helarte.pe taken in Miraflores, Lima by @imatifster
