Another milestone... first chemo post surgery. five sessions down, three to go!I have to admit, after all the good news and positivity from the first four chemo sessions, plus a successful surgery and early release, I’ve suffered a bit the last few weeks. My surgery entailed removal of most of my esophagus, the tumour and the top 1/3 of my stomach. Then they pulled up my stomach into my “throat” and stitched it to the stub of the remaining esophagus. Hence the name, Gastric Pull Up surgery. Not pleasant but more common than you think. I was told to maintain a liquid diet for a few days, then semi-solid for a few more days, then I should be able to gradutae to solid, normal food. Unfortunately even the semi-solid food was getting “stuck” at the new connection. Two weeks ago my surgeon dilated (stretched) that connection hoping it would provide me some relief. the relief was marginal at best. So I’m going back tomorrow for another stretch. wish me luck!Even though the difficulty eating is causing some anxiety, I still feel that I’m lucky to be where I’m at with my treatment. Once I finish my chemo sessions I know there are multiple tests and scans ahead, and some acute “scanxiety “(thanks for that term Sharon, lol). Regardless, my positivity hasn’t dimmed and I look forward to coming our of this whole on the other side... minus a few extraneous GI parts, lol.Once again I have to thank the Sask Health Authority, the Sask Cancer Agency, Saskatoon Public Health, and all the doctors and nurses and miscellaneous health professionals and assistants that I’ve encountered along the way. I enjoyed a snowshoe tour of my friend Michael Molaro’s @highergroundwork property on the South Saskatchewan River, just across from Batoche. Michael and his lovely wife Joanne treated me to lunch and a guided tour of their property. So much history in the area!! Can’t wait to visit again… after Mike sets an xc ski trail!! by @imdrbob
