When I first started my AMC journey around 2 years ago I didn't know anyone around me who had chosen this pathway. There was no straightforward resource or guidance like there is for USMLE and PLAB. It took me a while to understand how to do efficient preparation for the AMC MCQ and I even wasted money on a useless workshop (who i shall not name because idk if they can sue me for defamation lol).

After passing my AMC MCQ exam I was back at square one, but this time about clinical exam preparation. Thankfully I found a good workshop this time and really good study partners (and an amazingly supportive actual partner) and after months and months of preparation along with the ups and downs of life I gave my exam. I was really worried after my exam as there is a 25% passing rate but Alhamdulillah times a million I passed, and this post is an ode to the journey I had with this exam (and the mental breakdowns that came with it)

When I made this account it was to help IMGs navigate this confusing pathway, to help them find the right resources and to not waste time in figuring out what to do like I had to.

Given the current job market in Australia my journey is far from over, but I am happy to have made it this far.

So if you're an IMG thinking of pursuing the Australian healthcare pathway, follow this page for guidance!

Started studying for the AMC Clinical and feeling overwhelmed? Finding it difficult to remember so many differentials? Then do what I did and make these flashcards that made my revison of differentials so much easier!

How I made these flashcards:
• I got these flashcards from @officeworks but you can find them in other stationary shops or even online by searching for 'flashcards' or 'index cards'.

• I divided the differentials for each topic into sub-categories that made it easier for me to organise them in my brain and recall later on (E.g. Cough has subcategories of Red flags, Infections, Lung, Other. Depending on the differentials you can group them into such categories)

• I used a variety of coloured pens to write them because having different colours actually helped me visually recall the cards later on, especially in exam! (I got all my pens from @kmartaus)

• I punched holes in the flashcards and put a binder ring through them so they would stay organised and I wouldn't lose any.

You can pass AMC MCQ with a great score and still struggle with the AMC Clinical. That doesn't make you a bad doctor. Going from MCQs to clinical exam practice requires a different kind of preparation.

Save this post as a reminder of the most common mistakes IMGs make and try your best not to repeat them yourself!

👇🏼 And tell me below what's your biggest struggle: communication, examination skills, time management or something else?

When I started my AMC preparation, there weren't a lot of people or any instagram pages that were talking about the AMC pathway for free.

So here's a few things I figured out on my own and I hope they help make your AMC journey a little bit easier!

Use the core resources that I've mentioned my other posts and do efficient preparation.

AMC MCQs are based on Australian guidelines, so the most authentic resources will always be their own guidelines!

Qbanks are a way to understand the AMC MCQ pattern, to understand the explanations behind the right options and to practice your knowledge.
Choose one Qbank and stick to it till the end.

Often the free recalls available in groups are poorly worded, missing key details in the stem and have the wrong answers marked.
Instead of wasting time trying to de-code them, its better to get recalls from authentic sources.

As everyone knows, the AMC has increased the difficulty level of the exam. The important topics also vary month to month. So its best to get advice from someone who's still up to date about the exam, not just someone who passed it years ago and now has no information regarding anything recent.

Your own notes are very high yield. You can write them in a way that helps you study best and that varies for everyone.

(Ofcourse if you don't have the time no need to panic about this, you can get notes from some academies as well.) by @img_down_under
