The last few months have been full of ups and downs, highs and lows. Some beautiful moments and encouraging steps but also family health problems, self doubt, and probably the hardest circumstances for working musicians in living memory. No-one needs to worry about me, I'm doing fine, but it hasn't been easy.

The last few days on tour with Music for Imaginary Spaces have filled me with more unambiguous positivity than I can remember for a very long time. I am beyond grateful to Alma, Matthias, Elena, Thomas, Claire, Karine, Nastya and Ivo plus Mon Ami, Kulturprojekte Niederrhein and Jazzclub Erfurt for this amazing week and the @musikfonds.de for making it possible.

I was thinking about canning the future plans I had made for this project but there is absolutely zero chance of that now. More to come soon! by @imjordanwhite11

Having @karinebrava on tour is a massive privilege because 1. she is an incredible person who it is a joy to be around and 2. she is an excellent highly creative and funny videographer/photographer who is always thinking and working to come up with awesome visuals by @imjordanwhite11

Me and my custom made reverb software ready to go on tour NEXT WEEK with Music for Imaginary Spaces - very excited for four gigs in regions I care about a lot, Thüringen (where I lived for six years) and the Niederrhein (where I teach two days a week). We will be bringing SIX loudspeakers (one for each musician? lol no) so come hear some immersive ambient experimental jazz with very vague Orthodox church music influences. This tour probably won't happen again because it is only possible due to awesome funding from @musikfonds.de so definitely come!!! Tickets in bio link, come get around us!

Thank you to Anil Eraslan, @mervesalgar and @imjordanwhite11 for joining me in this venture of exploring where does folk music and improvisation meet; how it feels to be a migrant is someone else's tradition; what kind of freedom is found in the familiar.

Thank you to @cologne_jazzweek , as this was the perfect place for this project to begin.

A project very dear to me commences tonight for @cologne_jazzweek at Dominikanerkloster Heilig Kreuz, 18:45.

I will share the stage with three amazing musicians: @mervesalgar , Anil Eralsan and @imjordanwhite11 and the focus will be on Turkish music and its tonal system of scales known as *maqam*. This is a system that, due to its microtonality, also functions as a form of "doctrine of the affections," using music to portray emotions and moods.

Very excited to share this music with you!

Tomorrow for @cologne_jazzweek with @mervesalgar , Anil Eralsan and @imjordanwhite11 at Dominikanerkloster Heilig Kreuz, 18:45 Uhr.

I love to travel, not only to discover unfamiliar places but also to grow through shifts in perspective. This particular project focuses on Turkish music and its tonal system known as "maqam", with a special emphasis on microtonal melodies and experimental ornamentation.

„New Ratio“ is an ensemble that explores the musical possibilities and limits of a human-machine constellation. Within the performance, four guitarists are partly conducted by a robot and joined by four robotic, self-playing guitars to create a contemplative blend of soundscapes, ambient music, and minimalism through improvisation and algorithmic control. The aim is for the audience to experience the process of a self-regulating system. The project’s name alludes to the „Ratio Club,“ a British dining club from the 1950s where psychologists, engineers, and mathematicians exchanged ideas about cybernetics.
New Ratio is an extension of Markus Rom’s project @oh_no_noh , with which he performs concerts using guitar and MIDI robots.
