I am… because my grandfather came from Mexico in the 1930s to help build the railroads in Aurora, Illinois. My dad was born there—and went on to become the first Mexican Chevrolet franchisee in Los Angeles. He built a legacy that gave our family a future and that MANY LATINOS work hard to continue today. And, that’s just my Dad’s side… I am because they were.Because of their sacrifice, resilience, and belief in something bigger.I carry that pride with me every day.What’s happening in LA right now hurts. It’s heavy. And deeply personal.As someone who was born here, I know my experience is one of privilege—but I never forget the roots that ground me or the sacrifices that came before me.This is me holding it all: the joy, the grief, the gratitude.Proud of where I come from. Faith is tattooed on me as a forever reminder of my Dad’s voice, his wisdom, and the way he taught me to live. Growing up, my dad had one message he repeated over and over to me : Mija you have to have faith.He taught me that faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about trusting even when you can’t see what’s ahead. It’s believing there’s a purpose, even when the path doesn’t make sense. It’s choosing hope over fear.When I was 25, I asked him to write the word “Faith” in his handwriting. Looking back, I’m so proud of 25-year-old me for being present and realizing Dad wont physically be there forever and that I love that I was so tuned in and wanted to preserve it forever. I didn’t realize then how much I’d cling to this reminder every single day.I still don’t have all the answers. But I have faith. And that keeps be going. 🤍 by @imlvh

Life has given me the wildest chapters.Becoming one of my dad’s caregivers in my 20s. Losing him. Learning how to navigate grief, loss, and how to heal and rebuild. Finding myself, falling in love, and navigating my husband’s grief after his parents died. Then navigating marriage, burglary, and miscarriage and still pushing through!!!For a while, I wondered if those experiences would define me, but I’ve had a lot of support through this all too. Faced the pain and learned to keep going.I can carry my grief, honor the people and moments I’ve lost, and still choose to build a beautiful life.If you’re in a hard season, I hope this reminds you that your story isn’t limited to what happened to you.
