💙 MARCH 💙 It was a mad, beautiful month. Here’s some highlights. 1 my book went to number one on Amazon’s Hot New Releases for British food books. I mean… I can’t. I love you all so much. 2 Rico found a new napping spot. One of the more important highlights of March, really. 3 made a lovely, chewy, fruity, malty Bara Brith for St David’s Day 4 read and devoured @kateyoungwrites fabulous new cookbook. 5 baked again. A cake. A very good school canteen style one, in fact that was rich and eggy and vanillary. Recipe… coming soon… maybe… in July… IYKYK 6 thoroughly indulged in @attackofthe5ft6woman already getting prepared to celebrate the release of my memoir in July with these fabulous earrings. On brand for she and the book, I think. Love you. 7 a lovely trip to Hay-on-Wye with my beautiful mama, full of wine, books, and having to crouch my 6’ frame to fit under low doorframes. Also got some incredible bacon, sausages and beef mince from @masterbutchers there, definitely worth popping in. 8 a bath install happened inside the house and the early beginnings of a garden makeover happened outside. I actually touched grass. Highly recommend it. In this picture, Waffle is doing his version of helping, which TBH, wasn’t far off my version of helping too. 9 discovered with this picture (that isn’t mine) that Carrie Bradshaw had a seventh book I’d never noticed before. ‘Old Patterns, New York,’ apparently. Who knew. One of the madder things to happen to me, this month, I’d say. Delighted. 10 made a lovely, bubbly focaccia to serve alongside a vegetarian version of my bolognese (meat version on my website but replaced meat volume with half button and half chestnut mushrooms and swapped stock for vegetable stock which I used to soak some porcini mushrooms too) Served gleefully to @amie_libra and @bronwen_r - recipe for the focaccia also on the website. 11 this question, which I can’t stop thinking about. I have about two or three answers I’m trying to decide between. 🫶🏻 HERE’S TO APRIL 🫶🏻 by @immikeybell

💙 THANK YOU 💙 ‘Bell charts 35 years, 13 recipes, 4 countries, and 2 eggs to tell the story of finding a fulfilling life’ Still wild to me that a book I wrote on my own in my spare room while eating salt and vinegar crisps, drinking white wine and listening to rain sound effects is now on must-read lists. I’ll never not be grateful 🙏 Thank you @pinknews 💕 (If you want to do as they say and add How an Egg Changed My Lite to your reading list, you can pre-order yourself a copy via some links I’ve put at the top of my profile 🥚) by @immikeybell

ROSEWATER STRAWBERRY & PECAN CRUMBLE 🍓 I’ve made a lot of crumbles in my life. A lot. But I will go on a limb and say… this is quite possibly my favourite. Absolutely. Everything comes together in a pan - you don’t even put it anywhere near a hob - and let it do its things overnight and then you bake. Sweet, sharp, jammy, and crunchy. It is literally… quite perfect. Recipe available on my website ❤️ by @immikeybell
SOUPY CARROT LENTILS WITH DILL 🥕 This recipe was born from necessity, in the form of an abundance of carrots post-new year. For some reason, when I’m trying to eat healthier, I always grab a bag, and then stare at them for weeks begrudging their existence. But then I made this and then it didn’t seem so bad. TREACLE, PEAR AND PECAN LOAF CAKE 🍐 I don’t, really, tend to cook with treacle before October, so the minute the month hits, I suddenly am reminded of what’s possible, and more excitingly, what’s to come from that moment on ❤️ Also, this brand new recipe comes with a very mini side story of why a tin of treacle keeps me morally abiding the law, if that makes sense, which it doesn’t, so maybe you need the story for more context. Recipe available on the RECIPES page of my website 💙 by @immikeybell
MY HOUSE DRESSING, SHALLOT OIL & CRISPY SHALLOTS 🧅 You know what’s better than one good thing? Three good things that come from one good thing. That one good thing? Le shallot. You basically make shallot oil, which then gives you crispy shallots and also the wherewithal to make what I think is the best salad dressing of all time (IMO) which is lazily called my House Dressing. RECIPE(S) available on my website. by @immikeybell
📚 NATIONAL YEAR OF READING! 📚 It’s insane to think you write a book alone because you don’t. I certainly don’t. I write it with a thousand other writers in my head and heart who helped shape and develop my voice, and even inspired me to pick up a pen in the first place. For #nationalyearofreading here’s just four that inspired me while I was writing my debut food memoir, How an Egg Changed My Life. Buy their books and devour their words and let them inspire you to write (and maybe even live?) in ways you never knew you could. 📚 @nigellalawson - How to Eat 📚 @kateyoungwrites - The Little Library Cookbooks 📚 #gabriellehamilton - Blood, Bones & Butter 📚 @ellarisbridger - Midnight Chicken How an Egg Changed My Life 🥚 OUT NOW! 💙 by @immikeybell
BURNT BUTTER BROWNIES WITH CHOCOLATE SOUR CREAM GANACHE If you’ve read my book, How an Egg Changed My Life, you might remember the toothless nun who outrun me for a brownie in Florence. She won the brownie. I lost. It is what it is. This recipe is for her 🙏 Search BROWNIE on the RECIPES page on my website 🍫 by @immikeybell
SPAGHETTI CARBONARA 🐷 This creamy, little pasta is the culinary altar at which many food puritans kneel, holding reams of spaghetti in their hands chanting: ‘No cream, no garlic, no other pasta.’ Fine. Look, there’s a lot to be admired for preserving the traditional form – being able to trace a recipe as close as possible to its origin, it’s structure, and resisting contemporary temptations to go rogue with the truffle oil or herbs. I get it. But let’s not shackle ourselves too tightly to the original calling. So carbonara… I have some thoughts… Read them on my website just search CARBONARA on the recipes page. by @immikeybell
