Beyond the colours and canvases, art is an experience.

I spoke to attendees at the +234 Art Fair to understand how it made them feel and their responses say a lot about how powerful art can be.

Experiences like this remind us that art isn’t just created… it’s felt, interpreted, and lived.”

Building my voice in the art space, one conversation at a time.

There are artists who paint what they see.
And then there are artists like @timileyin_faseyi , who paint what we feel.

It Sets at Dusk captures a moment many of us know too well, the quiet habit of looking at other people’s lives and wondering if we’re falling behind.

A new home.
A new job.
A new chapter.

And suddenly, comparison creeps in.

But this piece reminds us that every light tells a different story. Every person is on a different journey, carrying struggles and victories we cannot see.

Through deeply personal storytelling, Timilehin creates work that feels universal, a gentle reminder to appreciate where we are, how far we’ve come, and remain hopeful for what’s ahead.

What stage of life are you learning to embrace right now?

What does strength look like when nobody is watching?

@lh_olanrewaju answered that question with paint, texture, and truth.
His character KEGS carries what most men are never allowed to put down
the weight of the world,

the silence of their struggle,

and somehow, still,

the will to keep going.
This is for every man who has ever held it together for everyone else and forgotten to hold himself too.

You are seen. You are enough. You are not alone.

There’s something interesting about an artist taking a concept as familiar as the seven deadly sins and making you see them in your everyday life.

Isn’t Life a Playground? By Timilehin Faseyi turns the gallery into more than a space to admire beautiful works. He creates moments that make you pause, question your habits, and sometimes even catch yourself in the work.

What I particularly appreciate about Timilehin’s approach is how he takes ideas we often encounter as abstract or distant and brings them into the world we actually live in, our relationships, our ambitions, our frustrations, our comparisons, our communities, and even the things we keep putting off.

The works don’t simply ask, “Do you know the seven deadly sins?”

They quietly ask:

“Can you recognise them in yourself?”

And perhaps that’s where the real playground is not in getting everything right, but in becoming more aware of how we move through life.

A reminder that sometimes, art doesn’t need to give you an answer.

Sometimes, it just needs to make you look at yourself a little differently.

“I don’t think art is meant to be understood the same way by everyone.”

That’s exactly how I felt walking through *Alas, We Meet Again* by @uthmanwahaab .

His work speaks about identity, memory and liberation, but what stayed with me was something deeply personal. I kept seeing fuller-bodied figures that weren’t asking to be accepted, they simply existed with confidence, beauty and presence.

It made me realize that freedom isn’t always loud. Sometimes, freedom is simply existing as you are, without shrinking yourself to fit someone else’s standards.

Maybe that’s the lesson: the artist creates the work, but every viewer brings their own story to it.

The more I learn about Njideka Akunyili Crosby, the more I realize this isn’t a story about success.

It’s a story about staying true to your voice.

In a world that often asks African artists to explain themselves, she created a visual language entirely her own.

Layer by layer.

Memory by memory.

Story by story.

And now, that language is being seen on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Art matters.

Not because it decorates walls.

Because it preserves who we are.

I’ve spent time in galleries, museums, and conversations with artists lately, and one thing keeps coming up quietly.

The art is powerful.
The stories are not always reaching the people they deserve to.

Too often, exhibitions are explained, but not felt.
Artists are shown, but not always understood.
Spaces are beautiful, but sometimes intimidating to those who want to enter.

This isn’t a critique of the work.
It’s an observation about connection.

I’m deeply interested in how we translate intention into meaning, and how storytelling can help art live beyond the walls of an exhibition into memory, conversation, and culture.

This is the work I’m committing to:
Helping art spaces, artists, and institutions shape narratives that are human, accessible, and culturally grounded without diluting the integrity of the work itself.

If you are a curator, artist, gallery, or museum thinking about how your work is experienced, remembered, and carried forward, I’d love to be part of that conversation.

Art already speaks.
Sometimes it just needs the right language.

You don’t need an art degree to walk into an exhibition.
You don’t need the “right” words either.

You just need time.
Time to slow down.
Time to notice what pulls you in.
Time to listen to the art and to yourself.

Art spaces aren’t exams.
They’re conversations.

And you’re allowed to show up exactly as you are.🫶🏽
