Y’all say a prayer for our brave girl, SkyPie. 🙏🏼👧🏽🩷✨🏥

Specifically, please pray for:
- A safe, uncomplicated, and successful surgery (We trust that, like before, God has handpicked, appointed, and anointed her phenomenal surgeon, Dr. Sukkarieh, and his fantastic team @childrensofms for this delicate task)

- Swift relief from the acute pain phase (usually lasts 24-48 hours)

- Her courage to walk as soon as she feels capable and comfortable

- Her safe ambulation as well as minimal to no pain or discomfort during the 4-5 weeks the surgical pins remain in her toes

- Her (and our) spiritual, emotional, and mental peace and strength as her little body heals and 4 year old soul processes the process of pain and recovery

- And lastly, for her parents and all those who love her, support her, and are rooting for her

Our family was chillin’ at the mall after Auggie’s school’s Patriotic Parade when Sky randomly jumped onto the plant bed and started passionately preaching God’s love to passersby! 🙌🏼🥰✨ What tickled us, though, was her disappointed mention that not one person left her an “offering” on the ground. 🤣 Have a happy and safe 4th, y’all! May the Lord bless you and your family, and may He bless America. 🇺🇸🤍🙏🏼

Today is International Albinism Awareness Day. 💛

If you’re new here (and it’s not obvious 😂), I am a Black woman living with albinism, a rare genetic disorder that, in my case, has caused a complete absence of pigment (melanin) in my skin, hair, and eyes. As a result, I also have ocular albinism, which means I navigate a moderate degree of visual impairment.

Before I found beauty and belonging in Christ alone, I hated how I looked, and I resented God for allowing me to be born with an abnormal appearance. I lived the majority of my youth wrestling with loneliness, depression, confusion, anger, and suicidal ideations. Not to mention, I made toxic life choices that reflected that brokenness.

Now, can somebody say:

GOD!

There are many miraculous layers to my testimony of how the Lord healed me—through truth of Scripture, power of prayer, and the consecration of fasting—to behold myself in HIS IMAGE.

Slowly, but surely though, the very thing I viewed as a burden became a platform. Through ministry, activist acting and modeling, public speaking, and advocacy, I have had opportunities to share my story of redemption with people across the country and around the world. And what I once wished away became a pivotal way God opened doors for me to tell others about His faithfulness and the transformative power of Jesus to change what ONLY HE CAN.

So today, I celebrate albinism. I celebrate difference. More than anything though, I celebrate my Sovereign God who never makes mistakes.

Lastly, if you ever wonder why nothing about you or your life has been ordinary, consider that an EXTRAordinary calling may be connected to the pain. So don’t despise your difference. Because if you’re like me, the thing that sets you apart may be the thing that sets you on purpose.

Our beautiful, brave girl has successfully kissed kindergarten goodbye! 😘 And while this accomplishment may look like a regular milestone to the world, to me—it’s a miracle wrapped in a cap and gown. SHE is the miracle I am privileged to mother, and I am deeply grateful the Lord entrusts me to steward this precious season of early learning and formation in her life.

She worked incredibly hard this year, and I am beaming with pride for how far she has come. ‘Cause real talk, the colossal amount of homework, sight words, and steep learning curves ‘bout took us out (a WHOLE struggle, y’all), but she persevered, gained significant confidence, and ended the year with an “A” average, consistently high behavior marks, and an award for showing the most enthusiasm and effort in physical education (putting those adult BP meds to work for sure 😫❤️‍🩹😂).

Anyhoo, first grade, here we come!!!👩🏽‍🎓💐🎖️💯😭📚1️⃣📝

Today is World Kindness Day, and whew, Lord knows our world needs kindness, a fruit of His Spirit, so desperately these days. 🌍🙏🏼😊✨Sky’s school is commemorating the day by emphasizing four important “bee” attitudes:

🐝 “Bee” Kind
🐝 “Bee” Respectful
🐝 “Bee” Sweet
🐝 “Bee” Responsible

The students were asked to wear yellow and black today, but of course, her MiMi Kescher showed up at my house last night with a whole bee outfit. 🐝🙄🤣 My girl loves standing out and being EXTRAordinary, and I’m learning to lean in and just let her have it. 💖😂

Like her mama, one of my girl’s love languages is, undoubtedly, words of affirmation. Consequently though, her negative feels run deep when people speak any words to her or about her that are less than affirming.

We have been intentional to instill in her an unshakable identity and confidence rooted in the absolute truth that she is created in the perfect image of God. And we have been blessed that she has had many special teachers who are gifted in the delicate art of teaching small children social and emotional intelligence.

. . . . which brings us to this conversation Sky initiated with me this morning in the school car line. Honey, she thought she was too fly today (and fly she was)! 🥰😂 She affirmed her love for her outfit (which just so happened to be the first day of school repeat), and she proceeded to share this lesson, which I asked her to share again on video to encourage somebody on this #motivationmonday to LOVE YOURSELF and to refuse to let the haters steal your joy! 😘

So proud of my girl, and so thankful she exhibits this kind of emotional maturity at such a young age. Lord knows her unique life’s journey will require it. #marfansyndrome Ah, He always forms in us what we need for our own EXTRAordinary journey! 😭🙌🏼🩷 Let that last sentence especially encourage you, too. 😊
