IMPAKT Exhibition | Data Never Dies | 28 August – 15 November

What happens to the data we leave behind?

Every message, image, search query, profile and avatar leaves a trace. What may seem temporary can continue to circulate, resurface and even outlive us. But who decides what is remembered, erased, and what is lost?

Data Never Dies explores how digital data transform our relationship to memory, identity and mortality. Through photography, performance, video, deepfakes, textile and mixed media installations, the exhibition reveals how personal data continue to move through platforms, algorithms and digital clouds.

Meet forgotten Sims and mourn your crashed laptop. The participating artists create new rituals for mourning, remembering and regaining agency over the traces we leave behind.

Featuring works by Amélie McKee & Melle Nieling, Charmaine Poh, Esther Hovers, Ginevra Petrozzi, Gjorgji Despodov, Janilda Bartolomeu, Joeri Boelhouwer, Kyriaki Goni, playField and Ruben Mols.

Curated by Rosa Wevers.

⚪⚪⚪⚪ in NRC for Data Never Dies

Can the internet ever forget? In her review for NRC, Esther Elligens follows this question through the exhibition: from data that keeps floating around to moments where remembering, forgetting and giving meaning become more human, fragile and personal.

Elligens moves through Ruben Mols’ obsolete floppy disks, Janilda Bartolomeu’s digital ghosts and grief, Ginevra Petrozzi’s altar for lost data, playField’s encounter with a deadbot and Charmaine Poh’s AI version of her younger self. What first appears dystopian gradually opens up to a more reassuring thought: data may continue to exist, but will only be remembered, when we give it a voice, a story or meaning.

Data Never Dies: Digital Traces & AI Afterlives is on view at IMPAKT until 15 November 2026.: Wednesday – Sunday, 12:00–18:00

BBC Radio’s CrowdScience visited Data Never Dies at IMPAKT!

For a new episode, presenter Anand Jagatia explores what happens to our digital traces after we die. Are our email accounts, social media profiles and online conversations deleted, preserved or passed on, and who gets to decide?

During his visit, Anand spoke with curator Rosa Wevers ( @rosa.wevers) and artist Janilda Bartolomeu ( @janildabartolomeu). In her work _when_scrolling_becomes_scrying, Janilda reflects on encountering messages from her father on Facebook long after his death, an experience that felt like interacting with a ghost.

Visit the exhibition Data Never Dies before 15 Nov. We're open Wednesday – Sunday from 12:00–18:00 taken in IMPAKT by @impakt.nl

What if technology isn’t just about speed and efficiency, but about how humans relate to the world through ritual, land, memory, and community?

On 17th October, IMPAKT presents "Ancestral Intelligence: Shifting Worlds" at Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival to address this question.

The programme brings together artists Buhlebezwe Siwani, Kevin Osepa, and Lorena Solís Bravo, to explore Indigenous and diasporic knowledge systems, not as relics of the past, but as living frameworks that challenge how we think about progress and innovation today.

Through short films and artist talks, the programme looks at ancestral knowledge as a form of technological imagination rooted in cosmology, embodiment, and collective memory. These works confront the lasting effects of colonialism and displacement, while offering powerful models of resilience, restoration, and connection between people, and between people and the more-than-human world.

Full-Spectrum Curatorship 2026 | Jasmijn T.E. Mol

We are pleased to announce Jasmijn T.E. Mol as a participant in the Full-Spectrum Curatorship program 2026!

As a curator and writer, Jasmijn T.E. Mol’s main focus is the intersection of spirituality, critical theory, and contemporary art. Lately, she has been interested in the position of faith and religion in contemporary art and society, and in how technological advancements re-inform and reshape these areas. She finds solace in artists and scholars who consider technology not as something completely opposed to the natural world, but as a spiritual entity or an alchemical practice integrated within a broader ecosystem.

Inspired by philosopher Federico Campagna’s call to make space for “the ineffable” in everyday life, her exhibition proposal for IMPAKT re-enchants the digital environment by investigating tech-mortality. It asks: How to die in the digital future? How will we mourn, and how will we remember?

Over the course of the program, each participant develops an individual curatorial proposal, leading to an exhibition-ready project. Their practice explores digital culture, ecology, spirituality, platform politics, public space, and more-than-human relationships—considering how curatorial work can respond to changing technological and social conditions. by @impakt.nl

IMPAKT has joined more than 200 cultural organisations across Europe in an open letter calling on EU Member States to reject the proposed cuts to Creative Europe’s 2027 budget.

Coordinated by @culture_action_europe, the letter calls on Member States to restore the European Commission’s proposed budget of €417.35 million for the programme, and to consider increasing it further.

Creative Europe, the EU’s funding programme for the cultural and audiovisual sectors, plays a vital role in enabling artists and cultural organisations to work across borders. Through this support, stories reach new audiences, artists and organisations connect, and new collaborations take shape.

Full-Spectrum Curatorship 2026 | Ada Harpole

We are pleased to announce Ada Harpole as a participant in the Full-Spectrum Curatorship program 2026!

Ada Harpole plans to develop a project on how platform media governs cultural exchange—particularly through the moderation and censorship of queer, femme, and sexual bodies. This interest grew from her work in community archiving and performance, where she has seen firsthand how communities respond to platform dependence with counter-strategies such as encryption, archiving, and embodied knowledge held outside platform custody.

As a starting point, she will delve into questions of who controls the terms of visibility in an increasingly digitally mediated culture, and what implications this can have for creative work. Artistically, her thinking is shaped by Netherlands-based performance initiatives, Tabita Rezaire’s video collages and work on internet inequality, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley’s consent-gated digital work, and Joyce Joumaa’s documentation of bottom-up infrastructures of access.

Full Spectrum Curatorship returns for its fourth edition, bringing together emerging and aspiring curators based in the Netherlands to share, experiment, and reflect together. This year’s cohort brings a wide range of perspectives on contemporary curatorial practice—spanning media art, digital culture, artistic research, public space, games, community archiving, and contemporary art. by @impakt.nl

Several users have alerted us to a potential security vulnerability in IMPcloud, IMPAKT’s temporary cloud service. The password may be easier to guess than expected.

This is concerning, particularly as several free tickets to the exhibition Data Never Dies were recently uploaded to the cloud. Until the issue has been resolved, visitors may be able to crack the password, access IMPcloud, find the tickets and use them to visit the exhibition for free.

As a result, the personal photographs, audio recordings and other documents entrusted to IMPcloud may also be less private than we had hoped.

We urgently ask anyone who manages to gain access to report it to us.

Explore IMPcloud via the link in our bio.
And do store with us!

IMPcloud was developed in the context of the current IMPAKT Exhibition: Data Never Dies, on view until 15 November.

Full-Spectrum Curatorship 2026 | Anna Bouali

We are pleased to announce Anna Bouali as a participant in the Full-Spectrum Curatorship program 2026!

Anna Bouali is a curator and researcher of new media. She asks how shared experience and collective agency emerge—especially as these possibilities come under pressure from platform capitalism, with its imposed temporalities and predictive targeting. Artists Femke Herregraven and Tega Brain track these politics with precision and wit, and Anna draws on their critical language alongside her own experience as a perpetual nomad, never quite in step with a city’s rhythm.

Against algorithmic synchronisation, she proposes synchronicity: meaningful coincidence that no system arranged. Her research also extends into acausal connection, temporal misalignment, and horizontal agency. This interest is echoed in Yon Natalie Mik and Choi Taeyoon’s Unworking Movement / Migrating Bodies (2025), which enacts slippage by letting bodies rehearse movements freed from the demand to perform. Following David Bohm’s view that nature is neither random nor deterministic, Anna Bouali also suggests that the way we move through it is neither fixed nor programmed.

Full Spectrum Curatorship returns for its fourth edition, bringing together emerging and aspiring curators based in the Netherlands to share, experiment, and reflect together. This year’s cohort spans a wide range of perspectives on contemporary curatorial practice—across media art, digital culture, artistic research, public space, games, community archiving, and contemporary art. by @impakt.nl
