While working on Wrap Party!, there were days I questioned myself, doubted myself and even almost quit altogether. “What if nobody gets it?” “What if this was all in my head and it actually doesn’t make sense?” and a million other “what ifs”. For every negative “what if” that plagued my mind, I would always counter it with “what if it works out?”. That kept me going.

Moments like the MTF Alumni event reminded me of why I created Wrap Party!. Watching everyone play and react the exact way I imagined made it all worth it. The icing on the cake was getting the stamp of approval from my mentor @femiodugbemi. If you know him, you would know why that meant the world to me.

Since I shared the idea of Wrap Party!, the love and support has been overwhelming. I keep saying that I am surrounded by the best people and I never take them for granted. To everyone that has purchased Wrap Party! so far, thank you so much. To everyone that has been a part of this journey, thank you for believing in me and for sticking with me. To those joining us, welcome. This is just the beginning.

Wrap Party! was created based on my lived experience and the real experiences of filmmakers and creatives. If you’ve ever worked on a creative project, be it a music video, a photography shoot, a documentary, feature film, name it. Exactly one year ago, during World Autism Awareness day, we released the official trailer for In Her Shoes. Today, I’m thrilled to share that the film has been officially selected to screen at the @nollywoodweek film festival in Paris 🇫🇷 after winning multiple awards and screening in over 20+ festivals.

My deepest gratitude to our incredible cast and crew who made this film with so much heart, care, and conviction.

And even as we mark yet another Autism Awareness day, I hope we remember to be kind and lead with empathy especially towards neurodivergent individuals.

Happy Autism Awareness Month and New Month 🤍✨

Have I said a thing and not do it?!
.
Outside of the goals and plans we had for Iwa Ji at @azurestudiosng, I told myself that I wanted Iwa Ji to have a one year festival circuit and then end up on a streaming platform. I didn’t know how it was going to happen but I had that goal in mind.
.
Before long, a path started to open up. I reached out to a couple of distributors. I was met with a lot of silence, some “documentaries are not easy to sell” and one “Have you considered changing the name? That might make it easier”. Remember that path that started to open up, I’m sure you know what started to happen at this point.
.
Then I finished my Sales and Distribution Residency and decided to use my own film as a proof of concept. “You say you’re a Film Sales Executive, what deal have you been able to secure for a film?”. If not for anything, I wanted to prove that it was possible to secure a deal for a documentary. That there are pathways for films outside of the obvious. Most importantly, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.
.
Remember the one year goal I had, one year was fast approaching and nothing was forthcoming. Not only did I not give up, I added another goal to it. Now, I had a fast approaching deadline with two goals in mind.
.
I kept at it. Research, reach out, refresh email, repeat. One year passed and nothing happened.
My faith began to wane but I still showed up. Some days, it would just be research, other days it would be to reach out, most days, it would just be to refresh email.
.
In the midst of all of this, I kept hearing “Have I said a thing and not do it.”. I had to rest in this promise, and here we are! Ladies and gentlemen, Iwa Ji joins the lineup of amazing documentaries from Sundance, Oscars, IDFA, Tribeca, Locarno and many more on GuideDoc!
.
To think that this is just the beginning.

It’s funny how you can seamlessly produce multiple projects and get humbled by a 2 day short film or a 60 seconds ad.

Every production is different and every shoot day is unique. Each story, team, location, budget, and creative vision demands something different from you.

While producing is a transferable skill, you still need to approach each project with the awareness that you have never done that project before. This awareness will keep you open enough to learn what this each production is trying to teach you. You’ll be amazed by how that little mindset shift will make all the difference.

I know it’s Monday but let’s throw it all the way back to one of the most fun wrap parties I’ve had in recent times. An actual time was had!!! You really had to be there.

Again I say, all these wrap parties I’ve had were without the most exciting card game for actors and filmmakers. Now imagine what will happen with Wrap Party! the card game!!

Lately, I’ve found that I’ve been drawn towards spaces that welcome creatives as they are and give them the room to be themselves wholly and completely. @ekunwe_ and his team did an incredible job with @xhalenigeria so much so that I still find myself reminiscing about the experience months later.

This reel is proof.

I remember having a bad day before arriving at the venue. @thesharonrotimi was one of the designated huggers for the event and I remember collapsing in her embrace as soon as I saw her. I needed that hug and she felt it. It helped. It really did.

PS: The Xhale community was the first creative community to experience Wrap Party!

It was really a day to remember.

One of the greatest skills to develop as a Producer is to remain calm under pressure. Why? Because this thing called filmmaking will come for you with everything it’s got. Everything that is meant to go wrong will go wrong. It’s unavoidable. It is not a question of if things will fall apart, it’s when. How do you navigate it when it does? That sets the tone for the rest of the crew.

If as a Producer, you are prone to breakdowns, emotional outbursts, screaming fits or becoming harsh in the face of chaos, that energy will spread through the crew. Before long, panic, paranoia and fear will rule your entire team. Nothing beautiful or magical is created in an environment ruled by fear or paranoia.

I know it’s not easy keeping it together under pressure and that is why I speak a lot about having an outlet . For me, running helps, photography too. Some say sleep helps but I struggle to shut my brain off in the midst of a stressful situation. Find yours, and may the odds be in your favor always.
