Control the breathing. Reset. Get present.

In these moments before a match, I remind myself: I’m ready. I’m prepared. I’ve done the work. My hands are trained for battle.

Block out the noise. No distractions. No second-guessing.

Trust the preparation. Trust the training. Trust myself.

Then step on the mat and let it fly.

Quarterfinals at Masters Worlds 🥋

One of those matches where it was back-and-forth the entire way. I scored, he scored. I scored, he scored. 4–4 on the scoreboard, decided by advantages.

One advantage away from moving on to the placing matches and putting myself on the podium.

Tough competitor, and exactly the kind of match you expect when you get to the upper echelon of competition. At that level, you’re going to run into guys who are extremely well-rounded, prepared, and evenly matched.

I felt ready. I felt prepared. I was mentally locked in and gave everything I had. It just wasn’t quite enough to get my hand raised this time.

They say you learn more from losses than you do from wins, and I’m already putting that into practice. Got the opportunity to go back to the lab, watch the film with Coach @baret75 , break down the match, and find the areas where I can sharpen the ax.

Proud of the performance. Not satisfied with the result.

Back to work. 👊🏻🥋

World Master highlights 🥋

Always looking to use the full arsenal and add new wrinkles to my game.

I don’t want to be known for having just one style or one set of techniques. The goal is to keep evolving, connect different parts of my game, and be dangerous from everywhere.

Getting to test it on the biggest stages is where you find out what works and what needs more work.

Coaching jiu-jitsu has unlocked a whole different part of my brain.

When you’re coaching, you’re not just thinking about what works — you’re thinking about why it works, how to teach it, and how someone else might see it differently.

Two practitioners can do the exact same move and have completely different approaches — different angles, grips, timing, pressure, movement, and philosophy.

And that’s what makes jiu-jitsu so damn cool.

It’s not about everyone looking the same.

It’s about taking the techniques, experimenting, finding what works for YOU, and turning it into your own art.

Jiu-jitsu gives you the canvas.
