Tried sketching waves as they crashed. I learned a lot about light and color from watching them roll in over and over again. And my sketches certainly improved the longer I watched. This was my first try at a wave study, and I've certainly got a lot left to learn. I even tried my hand at live sketching the sea gulls as they flew past. Some efforts were more effective than others. In general, 100% would recommend bringing a sketchbook to the beach at sunset. Close-up of my painted ladybug frame 🐞🌱🌼 I've been really enjoying expanding my painting repertoire the last few months. This is like nothing I've painted before, and it made me fall in love with doing little lady beetles. Since making this piece, I've done 2 other variations on the ladybug theme. For this painting, I experimented with using tones found elsewhere on the painting for highlights and low lights. The yellow of the flowers was used to make the highlights on the leaves and even the ladybugs. The dark blue of the background was used for the darker areas of the vines. I felt like it succeeded in pulling all the different components, leaves and flowers and bugs, together as one cohesive decoration. by @impression_seashore

Day 2 of sharing a random page from my college sketchbookI mainly used this book as my travel sketchbook, so this drawing was brought to you from 2016 France. A simple pencil sketch truly did not do the vibrant flowers of Monet's garden justice, but I did my best with the materials at hand. In general, it's a crazy concept that I got to sit at Monet's house and draw the same plants he drew more than 100 years later. Was truly a magical experience. Summer Floral FunFelt appropriate to post such a summer design on the hottest day of the year. I found this little shell on a recent beach trip. I've been very into playing around with floral designs, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to try out a little daisy doodle. This angle gives just a peak of the tiny painting. It's not often that I paint something purely for the joy of creation. America 250 Tea Candle HolderThought I'd try a voice-over to introduce my newest candle holder design. It's such a weird thing to hear your own voice playing back to yourself. I always think of myself as having a much lower pitch, and then I hear myself and think that's more girly than I was expecting. I've painted starry night on shoes, wine glasses, picture frames, and even pumpkins, but this might be one of my favorite designs. Because this is a candle holder, I was able to leave more gaps in the clouds than I normally would. The goal was to let the light of the candle twinkle through. Since I first started this sketchbook 10 years ago, I've added quite a few drawings to its pages. And you can see it's definitely showing some of its age. I drew this little Mike when this movie first came out. Monsters Inc always had a special place in my heart, and I was very excited for the prequel.Thought it would be fun to reveal a page every now and then to show off some old drawings and some never before seen new ones. Starry Candle HolderNumber 3 in my series of upcycled yogurt jars. I based this design on van gogh's starry halos in his paintings. I pictured the "stars" twinkling just like the candle light. Alternatively, I've heard them interpreted as flowers or fireworks. This ornament has received some divided reviews. I've been really experimenting with new ideas this year, and several of those ideas involved flowers. I chose some of my favorite paint colors and just covered this ball in flowers. I really like the way they pop on the soft gold background. Unfortunately, my friends and family I showed were confused, asking, "Why are there flowers if it's a Christmas ornament?" The lack of seasonality apparently made it unpopular. But hey, I like flowers, and I even found a song that proves flowers can be Christmasy too. I mean how could you argue that the sugar plum fairy and her flower dancers aren't Christmasy when the Nutcracker and its music are such a recognizable holiday staple. ........#holidayart #christmasornament #flowerart #handpaintedornaments #paintedflowers by @impression_seashore

What is one of the hardest things to accomplish?Taking a picture of a mirror (or a mirror like object) without getting yourself in the picture too. The problem is that I never anticipate that issue when painting on a shiny surface. Thus, you have me trying to hide my messy hair and sweatpants behind a holly leaf. Those leaves came in clutch for this photoshoot.In all seriousness, I had so much fun making my holly designs this year. The combo of the shine with the matte leaves and bright red berries worked even better than I had pictured in my head, despite the difficulty photographing it..............#holly #handpaintedornaments #christmasornament #christmasart #holidayart by @impression_seashore

Somehow seem to have cornered a niche market on etsy for handpainted picture frames. Over the last year or so, I've gotten several requests for customized painted frames. I've really enjoyed the challenge of painting on different textures and surfaces, and it's led me to begin dabbling in some more designs of my own. The natural place to start with these experiments was with miniatures. They're a small canvas prefect for trying out new ideas. Plus, they're far more affordable than full sized frames. I had no idea how expensive framing was until I started this.
