We spend so much time trying to get it right. What if we gave ourselves permission to FAIL? 😬

Without failing, we don’t know if this new idea or thing we have will actually work. We have to test it to find out.

This is what we played with at the Improv for Innovators Workshop: getting comfortable with experimental failure so we can make room for growth.

I went to the @nzimprovfest and came home with corporate workshop ideas, handwritten love notes, accusations, and moisturised hands. Let me explain… 💌🧴😂

WEREWOLF The Game 🐺

I was thrilled to be hosting Werewolf as I got to watch the intrigue unfold in ways I could never have imagined!

It was fascinating to watch improvisers use their sharp logical deduction, how they turned betrayal into teamwork, how accusations were met with convincing defences, and how suspicion formed alliances.

The game was played as it was designed. Teamwork wins!

The things that make bad improv: blocking, being negative, wimping and hedging, are the same things that kill workplace innovation

I can’t wait to use these games in my corporate workshops to demonstrate how NOT to be a team player.

My highlight... We each received an envelope of handwritten notes filled with lovely things about us 💌

A reminder of the importance of workshop design and why you should never assume. My highlight was learning from the other skilled facilitators!

This was a reminder of the pivotal moments that happen in any relationship, and the importance of bringing up the small things. Say what needs to be said in the moment, so it doesn’t quietly simmer in the background for years. My version of therapy 💜

I’ve come to realise that the antidote to fear isn't courage... it’s feeling like you have to face it alone. ✨

Last month, I shared my story @theconnectioncollective_tcc the theme was: Moments of Courage

and was surprised to see so many of my improv students in the room!

Because when I first started teaching improv of the the voices in my head was: "What if no one shows up? "

This Thursday, I’m pleased to be back as the MC 🎤and we’re hearing stories about something we all crave: Belonging 💛

I was wrong about celebrating failure...

There's a saying in Improv called "Failing Joyfully". And for years that's what I encouraged my students. We would celebrate those moments with a "Yee-HA!"

After training with the legendary Raymond van Driel, I've developed a more refined (and realistic) view on this.

Failure can be expensive. And it doesn’t automatically lead to learning.

What we should build instead is focus on improving Error Tolerance, instead of Failure Evasion.

The goal is to create a culture where people aren’t paralysed by the fear of getting it wrong. That's where Improv comes in...

How unlikely does a coincidence have to be before we stop calling it "just chance"?

when Carl Jung covered this term, he was asking a deeper question:

Can some events be connected by meaning rather than by cause?
