Podcast 093 // Impulse–Impulse is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer shaped by the city’s underground techno scene. Drawing inspiration from the many sides of techno, he blends different styles and textures into sets that are deep, hypnotic, and driving. With a focus on trippy grooves, detailed sound design, and layered rhythms, his selections are always thoughtful and full of energy.After discovering techno in his teens, Impulse has built a sound of his own, playing at venues like TILLATEC, RADION, Bret, and Paradiso for events including ANTIDOTE, VaultSessions, and Intercell. Outside the club, he spends much of his time in the studio developing his productions, work that has earned support from artists such as D.Dan, Hyperaktivist, Lea Occhi, AMORAL, Lyric and more. by @impulse.antidote

Ever since @antidoteamsterdam was founded in 2020, our aim has been to provide space for local artists, represent quality music and make social impact. We are proud to still hold these values dearly after hosting events for almost 5 years now.Last year we gathered for Palestine, danced till Monday morning and raised 6500 euros for people in need. Tonight we are back at @tillatec with our fundraiser, collecting money for @warchildnederland and @artsenzondergrenzen. We firmly believe that we can only contribute to a healthy scene by taking a stance and giving back to people. As we have the privilege to celebrate life on united dance floors, many people fight for their freedom just to live. Inspiration can come from many places. Sometimes I read a story and feel the urge to translate its essence into music. One such story comes from Viking folklore: the tale of Lyngbakr. Lyngbakr was a whale so immense that sailors mistook it for an island. After long and perilous journeys, they would rejoice at the thought of reaching land. But when they stepped onto the “island” and the whale dove back into the depths, the sailors would drown.This was never intentional it was simply the way nature worked: unpredictable, both beautiful and dangerous. Nothing can be taken for granted, nature demands respect and conscious movement.After reading this story, I began experimenting with whale samples. They have always carried an eerie yet beautiful quality for me, and I wanted to explore how they would blend with my hypnotic sound. The final result can be heard in this release. The story serves as a reminder to respect nature, a force far fiercer than even the toughest sailors.The artwork for this release was hand drawn by @renskefja. In my pursuit of making music that feels as natural as possible, I choose not to use AI generated artwork and instead work with something real.
