i hate to say it but not using spotify feels so strange. i'd been using it since it's inception, back when they had a 5 star rating system and the algorithm wasn't very strong - it seemed to only recommend the radio dept, yuck and yo la tengo.

before streaming, i was torrenting music at 7yrs old and it felt like the most illegal thing a child could do. it was akin to smoking cigarettes or shoplifting, and it's hilarious that spotify was believed to be the antidote for my music piracy while the platform grows into something much more sinister. but i loved the process of burning cds - organizing the downloaded tracks into different folders on my home computer, finding/making the cover art - then bringing them to school for my friends.

the landscape is very different now but i'll always be searching, listening and sharing. especially bc johnny got me a tape deck for my bday😺 by @imsmartandfun
