There is no one in this life like Mat George.

He was warm, accepting, hilarious, genuine, and a best friend to everyone he met. Having Mat in your life truly felt like a magical superpower--he made everything better.

Mat was the kind of guy that would walk into a room of strangers and walk out with everyone’s number. Every parent that he came in contact wanted to adopt him as their own. He immediately made you feel at home in his presence and he had a giggle that I want to listen to on repeat forever.

As a friend, Mat was the first person everyone would call when they were going through a hard time—even though he was notoriously bad at comforting people.

Mat was always looking out for his friends and was the king of quiet gestures. If we were getting ready for a night out, Mat would glide around seamlessly filling my drink, plugging in my phone, and dropping off a snack for me to nibble on. If I had a hard day, I would come home to flowers and a note giving me permission to eat his leftovers. I once mentioned that phone alarms didn’t work for me, so he started doing “morning debriefs” where he would come in every morning, wake me up, and fill me in on the latest drama with Twitter or in his real life. But it wasn’t just me, he did this for all of his friends.

I watched Mat do stuff like this thousands of times without ever expecting anything in return. He would clean his friends’ apartments when their depression was too bad to clean it themselves, he would fly across the country to drive a friend to a funeral when they were too sad to drive, and at one point I even helped him record daily strip dances for a friend going through a tough breakup. He understood what it meant to be a devoted friend, and because of that, his outpouring of love and support never faltered.

Mat was funnier than any person I have ever met, he was so uniquely silly and outrageous. He had more funny stories and memories in his short life than most people have in 100 years. He was so goofy and loveable that fans all over the globe reached out to let me know the impact Mat had on their lives.

His comedy truly changed the world, and the world is a better place because he existed. by @imsoooholyfield
