A technical failure in Italy’s air traffic control network has cut national airspace capacity by half this Friday, 16 October, disrupting flights across the country.

At Trieste Airport, connections to Rome and Milan were canceled, leaving passengers stranded. ENAV ruled out a cyberattack and said the restrictions were necessary to maintain flight safety.

Travelers are urged to check with their airlines for updates.

Barcolana 58 brought an estimated 550,000 visits to Trieste, with 1,858 boats taking part in the main regatta.

The event featured more than 500 activities across the region, while public transport recorded passenger numbers and media coverage reached new highs.

From sailing competitions to cultural events and marine sustainability initiatives, Barcolana once again brought together sport, science and the local community.

A major regeneration project is transforming Trieste’s former San Giusto military district, bringing to light nearly 2,000 years of history beneath the site.

Led by Edilimpianti and Schiavone Costruzioni, the €30 million redevelopment will restore the historic complex and neighboring Casa Marenzi, creating around 50 apartments.

Archaeological excavations have uncovered Roman residential structures, thermal baths and traces of a food shop, offering new insights into daily life in ancient Tergeste.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is heading to the United States from October 14 to 20 to strengthen international ties and promote its scientific and innovation network.

Governor Massimiliano Fedriga and regional councillor Alessia Rosolen will present the region’s research system at the United Nations in New York and meet with business leaders and policy experts, before attending the National Italian American Foundation gala in Washington.
