We’ve been taking a little pause after the launch of In Between Knots: A Soft Undoing (Volume One) - but behind the scenes, we’re now deep into work on Volume Two!

While Volume One attends to undoing at a personal scale, Volume Two extends undoing into the collective, exploring how rupture and repair shape social, ecological and political worlds.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing glimpses into the second volume - from contributors to conversations that have shaped the issue. Stay tuned as we reveal what’s to come ahead of its release at the end of autumn 🌝

Fragments from a conversation with Nastia Svarevska (@ana11sva) about artistic practices where relations and forms of belonging emerge.

Nastia Svarevska is a London-based art worker, writer and curator from Jūrmala, Latvia, whose practice centres on process-based, access-led, and cross-disciplinary approaches.

In 2024, she founded “In Between Knots” (@inbetweenknots), a community platform and publication that explores home as an ongoing, lived entanglement. Through this project, she has facilitated workshops at University College London (UCL), the Sopra Sotto residency in Italy, and with the Shor Series.

The second print issue of “In Between Knots”, titled “A Soft Undoing (Volume One)”, was launched on 27 May at Staffordshire St in South East London.

Rounding off the programme for the launch of In Between Knots: A Soft Undoing (Volume One), Ananya Jain (@ananyajainn) joins us with Return & Repair - a participatory performance unfolding across the evening.

Working slowly from a small pile of clothing in need of mending, Ananya invites visitors to sit beside her, repair together, exchange stories, remain silent, or simply spend time in shared presence 🪡

Ananya Jain is a curator and creative practitioner based between London and Delhi. As a performer, she explores the small and big everyday gestures, movements and moments that allow for connection with others and our own selves. She is interested inthe multiple manifestations of care.

Ananya has previously performed as part of group exhibitions at Cubitt Invites and The Warbling Collective. She is the founder of SHOR (@shorseries) a collaborative-community platform bringing people together through immersive, and multisensorial art and culture events and experiences.

We’re thrilled to announce that artist Jamie Lee (@jamie_leeartist) is creating a new soundscape for A Soft Undoing 🔉

Drawing on his own research into how sound shapes our perceptions of place, Jamie will gather field recordings from his archive and arrange them into a soundscape that attempts to tune the audience to the works and performances within the event at Staffordshire St (@staffordshirest).

Jamie is an artist working across different art-forms including sound, moving image,photography, installation and printmaking. His hybrid practice is rooted in the history and context of site and questions how places are constructed by the interaction of found objects, text, and the architecture that contains them. Jamie’s research also draws on personal experiences and familial histories, foregrounding inherited objects and materials while obscuring his own input. When presented as installations his works address the audience directly sometimes through the use of open-source, interactive technologies.

As part of the launch of In Between Knots: A Soft Undoing (Volume One) at Staffordshire St this month, artist Margarita Frančeska Loze will present a new site-responsive installation 🧶

Expanding the publication beyond the page and into the space itself, Margarita will stitch, rebuild, and relocate her hand-embroideries as they slowly enter into dialogue with one another, creating their own shifting home within the gallery. Through these encounters, the works become both traces of memory and living bodies — suspended somewhere between intimacy, displacement, and repair.

Margarita is a visual artist who works with expanded textile. With background in painting, she uses thread as a painterly medium, stitching into hessian fabric to create meticulous, large-scale embroideries in wax and cotton thread. Through vivid tones of blue, turquoise, red, and orange her work draws attention to presence and perception.
