Weights or cardio for fat loss? Here’s what we tell every client ⬇️

If fat loss is your goal, your calorie deficit is doing most of the work. Across 62 trials of people eating in a deficit, cardio, weights and a mix all lost a similar amount of fat.

Where they differ is what else you lose. Dieting with no training was the only approach that clearly cost muscle. Cardio limited that loss, and lifting, on its own or with cardio, ranked best for keeping it. Holding onto your muscle is what gives you the toned look you’re after.

So here’s what we’d have you do:
- Lift 2 to 4 times a week, with the last few reps feeling hard
- Add cardio you enjoy on top. Walking counts
- Run a deficit you can hold for months, not weeks
- Keep your protein up across the day

Only have time for one? Lift. Can fit in both? Do both. by @incheckfit

White rice vs brown rice for weight loss? 🍚

Gram for gram (100g uncooked):
White rice: 365 cal
Brown rice: 370 cal

That’s a 5 calorie difference. Swapping one for the other won’t change your fat loss.

Brown rice does have more fibre (3.6g vs 1.3g per 100g). That’s good for your gut and can help keep you fuller for longer.

But if you prefer white rice, eat white rice. It still fits into a fat loss diet. What matters is your total calories across the day, not which rice is on your plate 🙏🏻 by @incheckfit

Comment “BEEF” for Mira’s Chilli Honey Beef Bowl recipe 🌶️🍯

You don’t need to cut the flavour to hit your numbers.

Most meal prep goes bland because we assume flavour = extra calories. So it’s plain chicken, plain rice, and by Wednesday you’re ordering takeaway.

This Chilli Honey Beef Bowl is sweet, salty and has a bit of heat, and it still comes in at 529 calories and 39g protein per container.

The secret isn’t eating less flavour. It’s knowing where the flavour comes from:

The sauce does the heavy lifting for barely any calories
Browning is free flavour
Fresh toppings on the day so it never tastes like leftovers

Save this for your next meal prep 🔖 And tell us what we should make anti-bland next 👇 by @incheckfit

Does poor sleep actually make fat loss harder?

Across 8 trials, healthy adults with their sleep cut ate about 250 more calories a day. In a separate study of 11 adults, short sleep added roughly 220 calories a day of snacks, while meals stayed about the same.

And in a small study of 10 dieters on the same diet, the scale showed about 3kg lost either way, with 8.5 or 5.5 hours in bed. But with 5.5 hours, much less of it was fat.

Our take: tired decisions are worse decisions. So take the decisions out of your tired hours.

Keep your sleep times steady and plan your meals before the day starts 🙏🏻 by @incheckfit

Anti-bland meal prep: Creamy Gochujang Noodles ⬇️

Tastes like Friday night takeaway, but still comes in under 500 calories with 35g of protein a serve.

Sweet, a little spicy, and a silky sauce that coats every noodle. Batch it on Sunday and lunch is sorted all week.

So how much protein should you eat every day and over how many servings? 🥩

Start with your daily total: about 1.6 to 2.2g per kilo. Spread it across 3 to 4 meals, which works out to roughly 30g a meal for a 70kg person.

And no, a bigger protein meal isn’t wasted but let us take the guesswork out of it for you and count the calories so you don’t have to with a fully personalised meal plan 🙏🏻 by @incheckfit

Are all calories actually the same? 🤔

Well yes but they’re not all equal …

A calorie is simply a unit of measure just like a kilometre, mile or gram but that doesn’t mean all calories are equal because we have factors such as the Thermic effect of food, micronutrients, how full a food leaves you feeling and so on that impacts why they’re not equal.

The good news is we count the calories so you don’t have to which means you don’t have to stress about what to eat any more 🙏🏻 by @incheckfit
