We’ve been fighting for working people for more than 15 years. We work with and for street vendors, small businesses, open air workers, and their families. We’re Inclusive Action for the City, a nonprofit economic justice organization in the heart of Boyle Heights. ❤️

Our organization started with a group of friends passionate about making change – and today, we have a dedicated team working to foster thriving local economies across LA County.

We proudly offer small business loans and resources, ensuring immigrants and communities of color have opportunities they’re too often excluded from. We advocate to change systems, and pilot research and innovation to expand economic opportunity for all.

In 15 years, we’ve:

✅helped to legalize street vending in Los Angeles and across California
✅distributed more than $4.5 million in small business loans and $5 million in grants and cash assistance
✅launched a real estate initiative to preserve commercial spaces on the eastside
💪And so much more!

2025 has been an unbelievably difficult year for our communities. But we’re still here. We’re still fighting. Together, we will build an equitable city and show the nation what is possible. by @inclusivaction

What a week at the @oppfinance conference! It was a powerful reminder that there are community development financial institutions (CDFIs!) in all 50 states, investing in urban, rural and Indigenous communities, and powering entrepreneurship and small business growth.

We were so glad to join other CDFIs and partners from across the country to share ideas and learn from each other! We had important conversations about our advocacy to ensure that all levels of government continue to support policies and programs that allow CDFIs to do what we do best – invest in our communities. by @inclusivaction

Customers disappeared, jobs were lost, and businesses continue to struggle. This is what the immigration enforcement raids have done – and continue to do – to our communities. Thank you, Gonzalo, for sharing your truth. ❤️

@uclalppi and @inclusivaction released an important report on the cost of the raids on our communities and our economy. We interviewed Latino entrepreneurs across LA.

Please read and share. Support local businesses! by @inclusivaction

Thank you to everyone who joined the LA Street Vendor Campaign partners for the first screening and panel discussion of Sidewalk Justice, a documentary by @apa_losangeles highlighting the history and the lasting impact of LA street vendors like Ofelia Ruiz.

For years, Public Counsel and our coalition partners have advocated alongside street vendors for the right to earn a living with dignity, helping advance policies that decriminalize street vending and expand economic opportunity across Los Angeles.

This movement is built on the leadership and persistence of vendors themselves.

Special thanks to the film’s director, @misaq.la for helping bring this story to the screen.

Let’s GO LA! City Council voted to fund the public bank feasibility study. Now the plan is back on track.

Not everyone was thrilled. So let's talk about it.

"We can't even manage our own damn finances."

Right. That's the problem we're trying to fix. LA pays private banks hundreds of millions in fees every year to handle the city’s money. A public bank is how a city starts managing its own money instead of siphoning public dollars to big banks.

The public bank will not be run by City Council. It'll operate as a nonprofit financial institution w/ its own independent board, professional management & regulatory oversight.

"Who in their right mind would bank with the Bank of the City of LA?"

The City of LA. That's the customer. Nobody's opening a checking account or going to a public bank ATM. A public bank holds the taxes & fees the city already collects & reinvests our tax dollars into things like affordable housing, small businesses lending & fixing infrastructure, instead of paying Wall Street.

"Half a million dollars for another consultant when we have streetlights out."

That's about 0.003% of a $15 billion city budget & 9 council offices are chipping in their own funds to cover it. A small investment for major long-term savings. The city already has a plan to replace up to 60K streetlights. We can fix the lights & plan for the future at the same time. Fiscal responsibility means recapturing the millions that leak out of LA to private banks yearly.

Political influence, taxpayer exposure? Great questions. That's literally what a feasibility study is for. And under California's Public Banking Act, a public bank needs a state charter & FDIC insurance like any other bank - same regulators & rules.

North Dakota has run its public bank since 1919, and it's made a profit every year. Last year it had a 17% return. That money stays in public coffers. And LA already runs big public institutions. The city owns LAX, the largest airport on the West Coast & the Port of LA. LA can figure out if a public bank works here too.

Thank you to the 11 city leaders who voted yes and to coalition leaders & every Angeleno who has supported this effort to keep our money local! by @inclusivaction
