The Embassy of India hosted a reception for a group of Icelandic artists and writers travelling to Varanasi, India.

Ambassador R. Ravindra highlighted the longstanding cultural ties between India and Iceland and underscored the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural Relations signed in February 2026.

Mr Einar Falur, eminent Icelandic photographer provided insights into the composition of the group and outlined their plans and activities during their visit to India, reflecting the shared commitment to strengthening cultural exchange and artistic collaboration between the two countries.

PM @narendramodi spoke on India’s economic resilience and stability amid global uncertainty at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi. “India offers the assurance of reliability and stability. In the April-June quarter of this year, India’s growth rate stood at 7.8 percent. And this growth rests on a strong foundation. Twelve to thirteen years ago, India’s current account deficit was more than four percent of GDP. Last year, it declined to approximately half a percent, standing at 0.61 percent. Today, our foreign exchange reserves exceed 700 billion dollars. Our banking system is in its strongest position in many decades.”

Í Þórsmörk á Íslandi kynntist ég því mikilvæga náttúruverndarstarfi sem þar fer fram til að endurheimta og vernda einstakt vistkerfi svæðisins.
Ég gróðursetti reynivið sem hluta af átakinu „Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam“ (Eitt tré í nafni móður), sem Shri Narendra Modi, forsætisráðherra Indlands, átti frumkvæði að.

Í íslenskri þjóðtrú hefur reyniviður lengi verið talinn heilagur og því hefur honum oft verið hlíft við fellingu.

Visited the Þórsmörk Forest in Iceland and witnessed the inspiring conservation efforts to restore and protect its unique ecosystem.

Planted a Rowan sapling, a native Icelandic species, as part of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

Icelandic folklore has long considered the Rowan tree sacred and often protected from harvesting.

Það var ánægjulegt að hitta Jóhann Pál Jóhannsson, umhverfis-, orku- og loftslagsráðherra Íslands, í Reykjavík í dag. Hann er nýkominn heim frá Indlandi þar sem hann tók þátt í öðrum leiðtogafundi Indlands og EFTA um efnahagssamstarf (India–EFTA Prosperity Summit).

Við ræddum tækifæri til að efla samstarf landanna á sviði hreinnar og endurnýjanlegrar orku, loftslagsmála og sjálfbærrar þróunar.

Ég hlakka til áframhaldandi samskipta og aukins samstarfs milli Indlands og Íslands á þessum mikilvægu sviðum.

Pleased to meet H.E. Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate of Iceland, in Reykjavik today, who had just returned from India after attending the 2nd India-EFTA Prosperity Summit.

Had a productive exchange on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in clean/renewable energy, climate action and sustainable development.
