95 high school players in our club were challenged by our club director to focus on our technical skills this season. Doing the boring is not something most players enjoy.

We started this test in June. By July only about 14 players were still trying. It was a magnifying glass on your technical skills. It showed how much a player was willing to practice the boring. Some players said it was too easy, some said it was embarrassing that high schoolers can’t juggle even 200 and want to play in college, and coaches were waiting to see what age group would pass first. Today it was me—first player to pass the test in the whole club from the U17s.

Does this mean I got a trophy…no. Does it mean I have proven myself to a coach…no. Does it mean I play a full 90 minutes over a player with a bad touch…no. Does it mean I can sit back and stop practicing…no.

The work has just begun. Because this isn’t my ceiling.

200 juggles in a row size 4 ball—if you dropped it you had to start over.

Juggle size 4 ball to half and back

200 with a rio ball

To half and back with rio ball

400 with rio ball

35 inside of each foot

Shoot back of the net from 6yd box 5x with each foot

Shoot back of the net from penalty spot 5x with each foot

Shoot back of the net from the 18yd box 5 times with each foot

And do it all under 18 minutes (we had 20, but I finished with 2 minutes left). by @indianaelkins

My sister runs xc, the only voice in her head is the clock. Soccer is filled with opinions and voices. As my in house psychologist says before I walk on a pitch, “Learning to ignore the voices and protect your dream is the real goal in every game.” —Dr. Elkins

This weekend was a perfect example of the emotional rollercoaster of soccer. Our first game was an ugly 6-1 defeat, but it was a great personal battle for me. I played the entire second half, ensuring no more goals were scored against us while we managed to put one on the board. The second match brought a beautiful win, with the team pulling ahead in the dying minutes. Personally, it wasn’t a perfect game—I missed a free kick in the first half and watched the winning moment from the sidelines.
But here is the truth: neither outcome dictates my worth. To truly push through to the highest level, you must decouple your identity from the final result. Focus on the growth, not just the score. by @indianaelkins

There are ugly wins and there are good wins. Intense, clock ticking wins are the best. It was a good lineup today. More to come…

“Having complete mechanical control over both feet doesn’t just double your options—it exponentially increases your capability to manipulate the ball in any scenario.” — Johan Cruyff

I wasn’t born a switch foot. I just studied game enough to know the percentage of left foot opportunities is the same as the right foot. Learn to score with both, to technically move the ball with both and you have made yourself more valuable to those that know the game. by @indianaelkins
