Deep within the Indian jungle, I watched a honey badger stand its ground against two young tigresses. What began as a routine morning tracking fresh pug marks quickly turned into one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters I have ever documented. The forest erupted with unfamiliar calls and a tiger's roar. Moments later, a battered honey badger emerged from the undergrowth, pursued by two sub-adult tigresses. Instead of fleeing, it turned, confronted them and fought back with astonishing determination. For several tense moments, size meant nothing. The badger matched courage with instinct, forcing the tigresses to reconsider. Eventually, all three disappeared back into the forest, leaving behind more questions than answers. In years of photographing wildlife, few encounters have captured the raw essence of survival quite like this one. Credits @chinmay_ashar There are mornings in the forest that feel beautifully complete. Yesterday, at a waterhole in Tadoba, a tigress brought her four cubs into the open. They stayed close to her, moving between the water and the edge of the forest with the curiosity and innocence of little ones discovering their world. She remained composed and watchful, allowing them the freedom to explore while never letting them move beyond her gaze. Inside our vehicle, there was only joy. No urgency to move on. No need to chase another sighting. We simply stayed with the moment and allowed it to unfold at its own pace. What made it unforgettable was not only the rarity of seeing a tigress with four cubs, but the intimacy of witnessing them together—unaware of everything beyond that quiet waterhole. We were fortunate to photograph a few frames from that morning. But the real privilege was being there.
