BEAM ME UP!🛸👽🌈
When we started hiking towards this plane wreck during blue hour, the weather wasn’t looking too promising for what I had in mind. But if you don’t give it a try at all, you’ll never know what might happen.💁🏽‍♂️
After patiently waiting for a while, we then experienced a short magical moment where the clouds cleared and the aurora put on an amazing show.
I had never seen the Northern Lights this colorful before. And with those beams directly above the wreck, the whole scene felt unreal... almost as if aliens were trying to beam the plane straight up into the sky.
BTW: In 1973 the plane made an emergency landing on this black sand beach (everyone survived!) and has been a playground for adventurers eversince.
For those interested in how I actually created the shot: I lit the inside of the plane with a few LED tea lights and briefly illuminated the foreground and the outside of the wreck with my headlamp during the exposure.

Some spots are a must when exploring popular photography regions, they're too good to miss out on.😄 But it can be a nice challenge to also find your own unique perspectives and compositions in addition to just taking "that one famous shot".

👁LOOKING MOTHER NATURE STRAIGHT IN THE EYE👁
My favorite hike in the Icelandic Highlands! The whole scenery was incredible. Even under grey skies.
The “eye” in the first image is a natural spring
and the water emerging from it is relatively rich in iron. When it comes into contact with oxygen, the iron oxidizes, creating the intense red and orange colours around the spring.
The water then continues downstream, leaving the riverbed stained a rusty red.🩸🎨🖌
Since we were hiking late in the evening (initially hoping for some midnightsun colors), we had the entire trail almost to ourselves. What an amazing experience.😍

When I first came to Iceland, photographing glacial rivers was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. I always found the pictures that I saw online very intriguing - especially the more abstract ones. "Go hike the mountain!", they said.
"It will be fun.", they said.

It was overcast that day, with very low clouds. I was hoping to end up above the clouds on that hike. Spoiler: We did not.😄
But it was still a nice experience!🌬🧘🏽‍♂️🍃💧
