When I think about my Lolo, I think of him using both his hands to show off how he was Top Gun back in the days … flippin his hands back and forth in front of everyone’s face haha ✈️

We got it Lolo… you were Filipino Tom Cruise 🔥💪

One of my favorite memories is the treehouse he built for us as kids. He took whatever materials we had in the backyard and slaved for days. With his passion for innovation and creation, he surprised me, jing, and nina with the most UNSAFE treehouse ever built. We loved it so much. He gave us a place to climb, play, explore, and just be kids. And if we fell from that treehouse, I’m sure he would tell us to get right back up. That’s my Lolo.

And then there was the time Jing, Nina, and I tied him to a chair while he was sleeping. We were convinced he was going to be furious when he woke up. But instead, that was the first time I saw him laugh so hard. That was my Lolo too. He found humor in risky behavior and even admired it.

And if you really knew my Lolo, you knew that at some point you were going to hear him recite the Gettysburg Address: “Four score and seven years ago…” He was so proud of what he knew, and he loved sharing it with us.

Don’t get me started on PEMDAS. He enjoyed teaching, and he taught me to be curious, to look, to read, to travel, and to understand that there is a whole world outside of home to enjoy.

I hope that wherever you are now Lola Al, you are finally free to fly.

I love you and I’m grateful to have spend the moments I did as your granddaughter 🤍
