Envisioning live music in Auckland

Introducing another new project: Vantage, offering some reflections, and hoping to start some conversations.

If anyone wants to kōrero about the terminology used around music cultures (e.g. underground, grassroots, counterculture, community, scene), please get in touch! These words do a lot of heavy lifting, and I think it’s meaningful to distinguish them because they carry different assumptions. This feels like a good jumping-off point for more conversation.

Just to be clear, I’m not criticising small venues for needing to turn a profit to survive. Small, grassroots venues are vital infrastructure where artists build experience and people find community. They’re started by people who care deeply about local music culture. I’m hoping to add to the conversation by pointing to where else music, artist development, and community are also happening.

And on that note: consider donating to the Givealittle page set up by Nympho to save Neck of the Woods if you have the means.

After too long a hiatus Indisputable is back for our fourth and most ambitious project yet. We’ve been working with our great mates in @latetochelseasuckz on a double whammy of a night featuring excellent local bands to kick us off and DJs till the morn’.

Located on a beautiful slice of land in Waiwera, we hope to give you that winter festival hit and so camping is available. Koha entry includes camping!

Lots of important announcements to come so stay tuned! by @indispootable
