Holy shit. Finalist 🤯
The dream was already secured with that trip, and that session.
But for this image to make finals in Surf, top 20, out of thousands submitted to The Illume Awards?! Such an esteemed honor and privilege amongst the other world-class artists.
Thank you @theillumeawards and sponsors for the opportunity. And thank you @kirvanb for literally everything to make this image happen.

Red Bull @theillumeawards semi-finalist pic #2, @keobigboy with a back-tickling spit on one of the most perfectly shaped waves I’ve ever had the pleasure to shoot. He broke two boards that session and was on his last and got this beauty. Was hard to choose which image to submit from the sequence and even harder to go with a black & white rendition as the colors and light at that hour were phenomenal. Do you think I made the right call?
Regardless, helluva performance Keo. Thanks for doing what you do. Had to throw in a few extra clips from the day with how easy you make it seem out there

Red Bull @theillumeawards Semi-Finalist. What an honor! 3 of my images made it through from more than 15,000 submissions. This is one of them.
@ned_hart & @makaimcnamara on one helluva party wave just before dark at The End of the Road.
Going to be a long month awaiting the results for the finals. The competition is insane, it’s so inspiring to see how talented the other photographers are. Thankful for this achievement and opportunity. And big thank you to everyone that’s supported me recently and throughout my journey from the start 🤍 taken in Teahupoo... The opening shot of ‘Greenhorn’ starring @juddhenkes proves a professional snowboarder can transgress to the level of a pro surfer if you’ve got mutant genetics. This day went down in the history books for all surfers involved but for a snowboarder to rock up and outshine pro surfers was beyond belief and gave birth to the 15-month long project of Greenhorn presented by @monsterenergy, playing on their YouTube. Do yourself the favor and go watch it on a big screen with the sound pumped.

After hitting my pistol grip on the reef trying to get the first shot, I flipped my housing upside down to get the lens lower. At the risk of bashing my dome port and having a leaky housing. I’d say it was worth it.

The wave of the swell with @matahidrollet. The heaviest wave I’ve ever shot.

He miraculously avoided death by dodging a boat that was in the end section with no vision from the enormous spit. The boat almost flipped and cameras were lost but everyone was ok.

My first @surfersjournal mag spread had Matahi on the cover. And it’s been a dream since I bought my first camera to come shoot Teahupo’o. Linking up with him at his home brings everything full circle for me 🌀

Studio light and superstar talent @kailanikj it all really came together for this shot. It was a sluggish morning but when this bomb rolled in, Kai was on the spot and surfed it perfectly. Was good to be right underneath with the big RED cam and nail such a beautiful pass by
