I found some old pics when I really didn't take care of myself.

2012 - Not really fair to use this pic. I felt the worst I've ever done in my life. 4mths postpartum. Crazy hormones leading to water retention (even had this pre babies).

Roll on 2024 - Balanced my hormones. Managing my thyroid and blood sugar levels. Got rid of the 'cortisol face' (puffy). Crazy busy but managed with exercise and scheduled down time.

The obvious changes - facial definition, lustrous mane, long eyelashes, squished nose from the running accident, and a few more wrinkles (can't win them all). And rather interestingly, I've lost my hooded eyes. Probably, a side effect of getting rid of the inflammation.

What changes did I make? Everything was done subconsciously to make me feel better in myself. I just felt so tired and wanted to feel better. No end goal, just a new way of life and lots of trial and error:
- exercise
- hydrated properly
- targeted vitamins
- marine collagen
- 2 brazil nuts a day to support my thyroid
- no calorie restriction, and increased protein
- cut out allergens (dairy and yeast)
- structured skincare +SPF
- better stress management
- but could do with more sleep still

I have to add, I've had no work done. Just Invisaligns which I think has changed the lower part of my face and made my lips fuller. And absolutely everything in both pics are my own.

Time for a progress post! Always surprise myself when I see old pics pop up in memories. Same shorts and top @Sweatybetty make stuff to last!

Left pic 2022 - in a Greek resort's gym: Tonnes of cardio. No strength work. Not enough protein. Massively stressed. Cr@p sleep. But felt I'd made it - this was as strong as I could get.

Right pic 2024 - at home:
Structured cardio πŸ˜… but consistent (20min) body weight workouts. Joined row club - it's a leg and core sport folks! Protein with every meal. But also lots of carb to fuel all my workouts. Calorie surplus. Well hydrated. Stress under control. Sleep hygiene massively better.

Left pic a year after Dad unexpectedly passing away. Same vulnerabilities, but different mindset, different focus, different goals.

2019: believe it or not
- calorie restriction
- no rest days
- every run a hard run (fast as I could go)
- pushing on despite how I was feeling
- generic multivitamins from big name brands
- no sleep hygiene
- no core work (all about the running - maybe some swimming)

2024:
- increased protein and eating to support training
- rest days and better recovery (sauna and massage gun)
- easy runs incorporated (no shame in posting a slow run on Strava)
- easing back when feeling tired
- binned the multivitamins and instead used targeted supplements
- using my Garmin watch to track and improve sleep habits
- regular core workouts

Marathon goals whilst holding down a challenging job and being as best a mummy as I can be πŸ™Œ

When your mind is elsewhere but you're trying to get Festival ready.

Had a last minute change into the denim shorts after deciding it was too hot for the lace skort.

Went with strappy tan (flat) sandals. But should have gone with the cowboy boots - it was so dusty!

Mascara They're Real @benefitcosmeticsuk and Volume Lengthening @codebeautiful
Concealor, eyeshadow and blush @maccosmetics

Scenario: 2pm - your mate wants to run tonight. You were going to have a rest day. But who can say no to a chatty run?! Yes I guess only insane people or runners! And I'm both.

So the whole afternoon is spent at elite work efficiency levels. Chores done. Planks/core never to be missed except on a long run day.

Then the rush to get ready to not keep this girl @lizas_running_adventures waiting on her 18k run. I joined her for half so I could natter away!

So bloody good to be out in the fresh air during a weekday, even if it was pitch black and I almost decked it on some mud.

A friend's birthday bash.

It's cold and still damp so a last minute change of outfit to trews and boots. But still can justify the sequins in Jan I reckon.

Makeup:
Eyeshadow @elfcosmeticsuk
Concealor, blusher, lipliner (Chicory) and powder @maccosmetics
Mascara @benefitcosmeticsuk
Eyeliner @eyeofhoruscosmetics
Lipstick (Carina's Star) @charlottetilbury
I avoid wearing foundation as it sits heavy on my skin, and doesn't give me the dewy look I want.

Perfume (Patchouli Ardent) @guerlain

Outfit:
Everything is old
Maroon sequinned bodysuit top @abercrombie
Black trews @pullandbear
Boots @pullandbear
Jacket @nakdfashion
Black leather clutch @fatface

My very mundane morning routine. All before 9am.

Luckily my commute is just a few steps away into the study.

And today the run got relegated to the evening.

2017: High stress leading to cortisol face (inflammation). Undiagnosed thyroid issues, further exacerbated by the stress. Thinning hair - probably not enough Vit D and Mg

2018: Beginning to temper the stress. Learning about the importance of eating protein, reducing carbs and reducing alcohol.

2023: Lost a tonne of weight through burn out in 2022. Continuing as if I could shoulder the load for everyone. But forgetting myself. Heavy marathon mile training, which is fine as long as you recover properly. Learnt about proper supplementation. Multi vits don't cut it for everyone - poorly absorbed and ignores individual bio availability. So targeted the specific vits I needed

2025: Last marathon was in Apr 2024. So had a long rest. Pretty much tea total. Resetting my hormones. Life still busy but the kids are older and life is becoming manageable. Hair full of life. Skin getting it's glow on. Natural aging process causing some loss of fat in face.

No one lives the same life all the way through. But it's about how you adapt for the stages that's important. And recently I've become very aware of what I need. And how you can't pour from an empty cup. Sometimes you just need to ask for help. by @indusmith
