A podcast about the world of independent pro wrestling.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Woody Farmer carries a piano up Lombard Street. San Francisco, 1983.

Woody Farmer was a Bay Area pro wrestler who owned and operated Bay Area Wrestling from 1989 to 1992. He lived in Fremont since the early 1960s, and in 1983, at 48 years old, he carried a piano on his back all the way up Lombard Street to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The event was covered by local news at the time, and because of his efforts, a bunch of kids were able to go to camp. Woody really did it for the kids.

It’s hard to find a guy as genuinely good and kind as Woody Farmer was. He was loved by everyone who met him, and there wasn’t a single person who ever had anything bad to say about him.

Everyone who knew Woody said he was a great man, the best there is. He would go out of his way for people and help anyone who needed it.

RIP to the great Woody Farmer (December 25, 1935 – February 29, 2012). I really wish I could’ve met him while he was still alive. RIP Sir.

To learn more about Woody Farmer, Bay Area Wrestling, or both, check out this documentary. It’s really good and currently free on @indyhandshake’s YouTube.

Bay Area Wrestling aired on KSIX TV 6 Studio in Newark, as well as on sports channels in half a dozen western states.

Hey everyone, I wanted to put this out there to see if any pro wrestling fan, videographer or video archivists (especially from the Southern California area) had a specific match we’re looking for.

We’re currently working on a memorial tribute video for our late friend “Shooter” Tony Jones who sadly passed away unexpectedly earlier this month.

We have a lot of archive footage of Tony throughout his career that we’re going through. We have a recorded video conversation with Tony where he mentioned that he was looking for a match he had with The Prototype (John Cena) at UPW in the 2000’s in Southern California. He said it was one of Cena’s 1st pro matches and that Tony was booked to wrestle against him in San Diego, CA (Might’ve been Santa Ana, CA). We tracked the date down to be around May 24th or May 25th 2000.

I’m looking for this footage for 2 reasons.
One is because I think it would be nice to include clips of the match for Tony’s memorial video, and also, Tony stated to me in the recorded conversation that he was personally hunting that footage so his young son can see it.

At one point Tony reached out to UPW promoter
Rick Bassman and their videographer at the time, who both confirmed the tape exists but they no longer had it in their possession.

So I’m just reaching out to California pro wrestling community, to see if anyone had a recording of this match anywhere. I think it would make for such a great memory for Tony Jones’ son and family to have.

Thank you.
