A lot of you know Stevie, but you may not know Stevie’s story.

He was born on the island of Cyprus. His chances of having a happy, healthy life as a street cat were extremely limited by the fact that he was completely blind. He wasn’t thriving and it was obvious that he needed urgent medical attention.

While we were actively looking for a pal for our handicapped cat, Pepper, an amazing woman was busy trying to get Stevie off the streets. It took several attempts to catch him, but he was too timid and scared. Eventually, I believe Stevie grew weary and didn’t have the energy to fight her anymore. We recently learned that her final attempt was the one that saved him.

He was taken in and made sure he got the medical care he needed, but it was clear he wouldn’t survive as a street cat the way he was. He couldn’t go back to his colony; he needed a home. He needed to be where he could thrive despite his limitations.

Instagram stories are powerful, and we learned about Stevie through one that was casually shared with us. A share from a friend who thought of us because of Pepper. We reached out. Curious, cautious, with zero expectations. Slowly, we realized how much we liked this cat and his story, and we literally said, “He’s ours.”

The wait was an incredibly long three months while Stevie was nursed back to health. We received so many pictures and videos along the way, and we stayed in contact with his rescuer the entire time. When he was finally fit enough to travel, he was flown from Cyprus to Germany, where we picked him up at the airport. He’s been our little island boy ever since. ❤️

Today was extremely special. Our vacation spot this year was Cyprus. It was a new place to visit and a place that has become very special to us. We got the chance to meet the amazing woman who saved him. We visited the place where Stevie was born, lived, and was later rescued from. We even fed the very same cats that once shared space with him.

It’s such a full-circle moment. One that’s made this trip worth it all. 🥹 taken in Paphos, Cyprus by @indyleslie

My heart aches for this little guy. We’ve come to realize that it’s in Stevie’s best interest to have both of his eyes removed due to multiple infections and the unnecessary risks that come with it. It was not an easy decision to make, but it’s one we know is right.

His surgery is scheduled for May 16th. If you know me, you know I love my babies. Please send good vibes that Stevie gets through the surgery without any issues and that he will continue to thrive. He means so much to us. ❤️ by @indyleslie

Two weeks over Christmas in Texas was exactly what I needed. Pictures are few because I was too busy living in the moment. My family means everything to me and it couldn’t have been more perfect. It was the best way to end the year. ❤️ taken in Houston, Texas by @indyleslie
