These sentiments are actually what drove the inspiration for our 2026 @fleursdevilles FLORA Exhibit at @hudsonyards
COUTURE isn’t just on runways in Milan! COUTURE is in the ditches of Trinidad. Couture is the dress stitched together by your grandmother in her chattel house, as she makes plantains and curry goat. Couture is the beautiful hummingbirds that serenade you in the rising. Couture is the dirt roads. Couture blooms in the most unexpected places. This is an ode to Trinidadian culture.
This piece is rooted in home 🇹🇹

We built a chattel house backdrop as the grounding element — the foundation that carries history, resilience, and perseverance behind those walls.

From there, we wanted couture to feel like it’s blooming out of that foundation — not imported, not borrowed, not trying to fit into anybody else’s definition of luxury. A sculptural floral gown, built with movement and intention, with palm shapes that feel like they’re breathing and dancing as you walk around her. The textures are meant to contrast and challenge your ideals on what couture is ‘supposed to be’

The hummingbird 🪹— small but powerful, much like Trinidad it has a spirit of motion. Always moving, always surviving, always finding sweetness. That’s what this mannequin is to me: a reminder that couture isn’t confined to elite spaces or perfect backdrops. It can exist where people least expect it — blooming from heritage, from memory, from the places that made us. @qualityflowersgreens taken in Hudson Yards Mall by @indymarieee

As everyone rushed to post their New Year’s post in the middle of winter lol I sat and reflected on this past year. I took forever to post my work from the flowershop.. although it’s been now 2 years [ 731 days, 17,544 hrs ] that I’ve been creative floral director, floral operations manager, content curator, social media strategist ( really the roles intertwine and co-exist when you are THE bidness ) the truth is? it still captivates me and takes my breath away in unimaginable ways.. if you’ve ever read the alchemist. Building ( because I’m not just ‘working’ ) at the shop feels exactly like that book… I traveled afar to find out the gold was seated beneath me the entire time. I appreciated it from afar for years having been intimately intermixed through my parents beginning of the shop but I’ve quite literally jumped in bed with it now in a way my younger self didn’t necessarily foresee. The falling in love part. I thought of myself .. following suit in my parents footsteps as they are immense, metaphysical creative benders, I too as well. Florals, plants touched me in a traditional honoring- almost obligatory sense. But this is 100% desire. There’s times I wonder .. will I have time for … will I get back to… the answer is .. yes always and completely .. wholeheartedly yes. The shop slowed me down in ways I didn’t know I needed integrated my bloodstream, my DNA. Loved me at my ..whatever I could give or couldn’t because sometimes I show up at 20% others 150% .. cradled me in its arms kissed me every rising and every evening I put the gate down and said GN 🌹

Mommy & Daddy.. This One’s For You Always. No amount of thank you’s can express the gratitude I feel for you creating the ground I stand upon.

Damn.. this post about to be emotional as fuck.. January .. you did not have to snap like that.. I have so many words I don’t know where to begin. I received everything I manifested and then some. Thank you God first and foremost thank you to the orisha’s for continuously protecting and gracing my Ori with an unquenched thirst to learn and grow. Thank you to my mama, daddy, Tata and Grandma. Thank you to my lover, Thank you to my community!
