Did things go wrong along the way? Sure.

My water bottle decided to stop holding water and leaked its entire contents all over me and the floor of the plane.

We hopped on the wrong bus to get to the flyaway and rode it a stop before getting off.

My platform shoes slightly collapsed on the last leg of the journey and started sinking and making a mysterious clicking noise every step.

The first shower we took in the hotel, we didn’t close the curtains correctly and flooded the bathroom.

My phone flew out of my pants on the dance floor and was lost for a few hours.

I overheated in my corset first day of labyrinth and had to go back to the room and rework my outfit so I could feel comfortable.

The hotel AC never cooled the room below a humid 73 degrees despite its insistence that the room temp was 65.

It was so humid and hot in Los Angeles we sweat through almost all of our under clothes we’d packed the first two nights.

Our train down to San Diego was delayed and our flight home was delayed.

But if you asked me how my trip was, I’d say it was awesome. None of the things that go wrong ever seem like an insurmountable obstacle or a day ruining event.

They’re just bumps in the road and funny stories to tell later. by @ineffable_sinclair

I spend a ton of time on planes between work and flying back and forth to see friends and family back home.

I really dislike the journey to a new place.

I get anxious leading up to the airport worrying that I might be late or I might forget something important.

The constant noise on the overcom at the airport is incredibly overstimulating.

I struggle to sit still and always have. If you look at my report cards from grade one through six pretty much every teacher made that remark. So you can imagine how absolutely bonkers I’m going locked in a metal tube in the sky for hours.

I don’t comfortably fit in any of the airplane seats. The little armrests actively dig into my hips if the person next to me insists on keeping them down. My shoulders are too broad and I’m constantly crossing my arms to keep from bumping my seat mate.

It’s just never a good time on a plane.

But having a buddy to be anxious with, to squish hips and knock shoulders together, and film silly videos in the airport and train stations with made the journey seem easy. 💜 by @ineffable_sinclair

The feeling of relief washed over me as we patiently awaited our plane’s boarding call time.

It’d been a hell of a year and here we were again, leaving for Labyrinth, just like we said we would the year before.

A friend once doubted our ability to achieve the things we’d set our minds to because we both struggle to manage our ADHD. I never quite understood the point of the remark, other than to sow seeds of doubt in ourselves.

I called it out for what it was at the time. Explained I had no room in my life for friends that chose to focus on doubting my abilities because of my diagnosis and explained I’d walk away from any similar conversations in the future.

I’d learned long ago that anything worth doing wouldn’t be easy. I’d rather struggle to get there than do nothing and remain stuck in the same patterns. So I had no interest in returning to the kind of mindset they had about us.

Their seeds never rooted and instead, we’d taken three concepts from idea to execution to reality in just under a handful of months.

We sourced pieces from thrift stores, altered what we had in our closets, sculpted and painted horns we wound up not using, weathered fabrics and accessories, dyed shirts, and splurged on a few pieces here and there to bring to life our costumes for Labyrinth and RenFaire.

Sure, sometimes it felt overwhelming or disappointing when our skills didn’t quite match our vision…but we had fun doing it.

And we liked what we’d created. by @ineffable_sinclair

Washington Midsummer RenFaire Dark Fantasy Weekend | Order of the Celestial Bodies: Sun & Moon

You burn so brightly just to keep us warm, the least I could do is reflect some of that light back into you.

I placed the pieces of you into a lamp to remind myself of your warmth when darkness became all consuming and I was sure I’d lose myself. But every month, I am made full and whole once again.

In the twilight hours between dawn and dusk, we meet. In those between moments, we create our own secret world. by @ineffable_sinclair

Washington Midsummer RenFaire Dark Fantasy Weekend || Council of Celestial Bodies Meeting

Would you believe me if I told you none of this happened on purpose? The threads of our collective consciousness pulled us together to create the Order of Celestial bodies right then and there, simply for your viewing pleasure.

So tell me, in your mind, what kind of magical dealings does the Order of the Sun deal? And what of the Moon? by @ineffable_sinclair

Washington Midsummer RenFaire Dark Fantasy Weekend || Midnight Mage of the Lunar Order

This character evolved over the weekend, became different versions and iterations of himself as he spread magic to every nook and cranny of the faire he could find. In some photos you will see him with a mage hat and in others—horns.

Magic has a cost, and sometimes the cost of that magic changes who you are physically.

I am no exception to the rule and neither are you.

The art of becoming can be painful and yet so, so beautiful. It may hurt now darling, but please, don’t stop I can see who you are underneath and it’s an incredible sight to behold. taken in Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire by @ineffable_sinclair

While lost in the woods with no service for five days @oregoncountryfair, I rarely had my phone out. The battery lasted about two and half days before I had to even think about charging it.

There were so many moments not captured, but I want to remember them, so I’ll do my best to tag the folks.

@shacharpoet performing with you on stage was so much fun, you’re the embodiment of someone who chooses to be tender but can absolutely throw down to protect his own if need be. I admire you.

@charlielouevans you’re an incredible writer and I have every confidence that you will achieve your dreams of becoming a professional poet. Thank you for sharing your work with us all.

@the_eggboy there were so many moments where we’d read or see one another throughout the weekend, I adored them all. Your song, Dirty Dog, will be stuck in my head forever. 🐾

@spicydads the way you command the stage is enthralling. You are king, clown and goddess all in one being it’s absolutely magnificent. Thank you for sharing your energy and your glitter.

@where.is.ripper.exe your performances tell a story so cohesively, every time! I am perpetually amazed by your makeup artistry. Also, your laugh is infectious. I hope it’s not long before I can laugh with you again.

@clairerothy / @oyojust I don’t think the beginning of this trip could have been better. Thank you for your hospitality. I promise not to be a spooky ghost in your house.

@_theam camp moms through and through! I appreciate you muchly! From the rejuvenating spaghetti bite to driving me to my car in the middle of the night so I could get home in time Monday, thank you.

@judy_jitsu thank you for being such a caring friend, even when I’ve rolled too far down the rabbit hole to see it. I love you and appreciate you. Also, you sharing the history behind Queen Liliʻuokalani‘s Aloha Oe closed out the weekend beautifully but absolutely gutted me.

Finally, @roarandtender and Matthew: Thank you for showing me exactly what I was looking for when I came to fair. Saturday night with you both was filled with so much laughter, joy, play and excitement. We sucked all the micro moments outta that night!

I love you all. by @ineffable_sinclair

More @oregoncountryfair appreciation!

In addition to the Vibrant Souls Queer Poetry showcase, I also performed my own show, Rites of Fable, a ritualistic poetry set about love and loss where I invited the audience to participate to write down whatever whatever they’d like to release and set their intentions for the weekend, the year, the month on a piece of paper and burned the pages afterward.

I made a zine and sold like six copies, which doesn’t sound like much, but honestly, I wasn’t expecting anyone to buy my home-printed little zine! So, I’m pretty stoked.

I got to meet Fooble the Dragon, he was staying with our camp! And peanut too!

I had the privilege of seeing the incredible @jorah_lafleur perform a piece that rocked me with its rhythm and rhyme.

@roarandtender brought me to tears with his set, but also his poetry is filled with such emotion, it brings me to tears every time.

I had an amazing tea ceremony with my camp neighbors that truly grounded me and brought peace to my overstimulated heart. by @ineffable_sinclair

@oregoncountryfair was an incredible experience! I am absolutely in awe of the effort it takes to create such a magical, art-focused space. This is a festival with absolutely no corporate sponsors, all the food vendors are local, all the stalls selling wares are created by artisans, and the entertainment booked are artists from around the globe of varying degrees of notoriety.

It was such a privilege to stand on the stage with @roarandtender and @charlielouevans to perform a showcase focused around queer experiences and voices. Looking out from that stage to a multigenerational sea of queers from all walks of life was a reminder that we’re not alone. Both of the poets I shared the stage with are incredibly talented. Go visit their socials to find their work!

Thank you to @ericwilliambram for all your leadership@and coordinating efforts. This wouldn’t have been possible without all your hard work! And thank you @jorah_lafleur for spending years building up the foundation for Spoken Word poets to take the stage before I ever set foot on it. Your guidance and passion for bringing artists together is truly inspiring. by @ineffable_sinclair
