Thank you @macmillan.audio for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own. (This is an Audible Original.)

PLOT OVERVIEW: This story follows Zara, a fitness influencer whose picture-perfect life begins unraveling as she grapples with her desire for motherhood, unsettling health episodes, and mysterious threats. When an old flame forces her to confront the cracks beneath her polished image, Zara is pulled toward a sinister truth.

MY THOUGHTS: I was thrilled to receive this surprise audiobook from @macmillan.audio, and I started listening immediately. 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 is an engaging full-cast audio production featuring eerie music, immersive sound effects, and excerpts from an overly intrusive fitness app. Helen Laser (and the other narrators) deliver a phenomenal performance, bringing the characters and the story’s high-energy atmosphere to life.

I stayed engaged from beginning to end. While the pacing may feel a little slow for a traditional thriller, it moves quickly as a character-driven drama. I figured out what was happening relatively early, but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment; in fact, it added to the fun of listening to the story unfold. If you enjoy stories filled with drama, intrigue, gaslighting, obsession, stalking, and plenty of energy, give 𝘞𝘦𝘥𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 a listen!

By John Grisham

Thank you @prhaudio for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

PLOT OVERVIEW: A newlywed couple’s Paris honeymoon turns into a terrifying international kidnapping, drawing the FBI, CIA, and French Intelligence into a deadly conspiracy—until a young lawyer is recruited as bait in a high-stakes operation.

MY THOUGHTS: I really enjoyed this suspenseful story, which takes place across two continents and several countries. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning. A beautiful couple gets married, and the bride shares photos of their engagement and wedding on social media, along with personal details about their relationship.

After the couple arrives in Paris for their honeymoon, they enjoy a few days together before suddenly being kidnapped. They are held for ransom, and although the ransom is paid, only the wife is returned safely. Her husband remains missing. We soon learn that he is being tortured and questioned, but he has no idea why. It turns out that other American couples have experienced similar kidnappings.

The FBI eventually approaches a young lawyer with a dangerous plan: he must allow himself to be captured and tortured so he can lead law enforcement to the location where the other men are being held captive.

The story held my attention from beginning to end because I wanted to see how everything would unfold. It is told from the perspectives of several characters, and each one felt believable and easy to connect with. The plot moves quickly, and the action is intense.

The audio production is excellent. The narrator uses a wide range of voices, accents, and languages, bringing each character to life and making the international setting feel authentic.

I’ve been enjoying rediscovering John Grisham’s books, and this one is excellent. I recommend it to readers who enjoy fast-paced thrillers, international suspense, kidnappings, espionage, and stories filled with action and danger.

Thank you @joffebooks @dlfisheryhrillers for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

PLOT OVERVIEW: When a woman discovers a mysterious message about her husband’s surprise dream home, she secretly drives there to investigate, only to find his truck and another woman waiting. What begins as an exciting birthday surprise quickly becomes a dangerous web of secrets, betrayal, and twists.

MY THOUGHTS: This is a fast-paced domestic thriller that will appeal to fans of Freida McFadden. The intriguing plot is packed with twists and unfolds through three perspectives: Elena’s, Summer’s, and the events of ten years earlier.

Although the characters aren’t always easy to like, I found myself sympathizing more with Elena and hoping things would work out for her. I won’t reveal much more about the plot, as this is a story best experienced without preconceived ideas.

If you enjoy tales of gaslighting, betrayal, and twist after twist, this may be a fun, entertaining read. Like many popcorn thrillers, it requires some suspension of disbelief, but it delivers a fast-paced, dramatic escape.

PLOT OVERVIEW: When a judge and his wife are murdered, Jonathan Stride is drawn into a deeply personal investigation that turns his world upside down. As shocking secrets emerge, he must confront an impossible choice that could change everything.

MY THOUGHTS: I was thrilled when I saw that the latest Jonathan Stride mystery was finally available! This is truly my favorite detective series, and the newest installment did not disappoint!

All of my favorite characters return—Jonathan, Serena, Maggie, and Cat—and there’s even an appearance by Cab Bolton, the colorful private investigator from another Freeman series. The pacing is excellent, and the suspense kept me turning the pages, while the familiar relationships added depth and buy-in to the investigation.

If you enjoy well-written police procedurals with a likable cast, richly developed backstories, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 a compelling plot filled with twists and surprises, I highly recommend this five-star series.

This latest installment can be read as a standalone, but I’m sure you’ll want to binge the entire series afterward!

The audiobook is narrated by January LaVoy, whose widely respected talent brings each character vividly to life. She gives every character a distinct and memorable voice, making the audiobook especially enjoyable.

Thank you @bookmarked for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

PLOT OVERVIEW: When Nadeeka discovers her partner Jamie dead after catching him in a lie, she becomes entangled in a chilling mystery where betrayal, secrets, and suspicion blur the line between victim and suspect.

MY THOUGHTS: This story begins from Nadeeka’s point of view before shifting to Lauren, the police officer assigned to investigate Jamie’s murder. I really enjoyed this intricate mystery and the way the two perspectives gradually revealed more about the case.

At first, we follow Nadeeka as she tries to understand the mystery surrounding Jamie, including why he was murdered and whether his secrets may have played a role. She also becomes determined to investigate the case herself, which adds a layer of tension and suspicion.

Lauren’s perspective introduces the police investigation, as well as her relationship with her partner and fiancé, Fraser. I especially enjoyed their dynamic. Fraser appears to be supportive and dependable, and he takes on many of the details surrounding their upcoming wedding while Lauren focuses on the case. Their relationship felt genuine and added warmth to the darker storyline.

Although the story takes place in December, it doesn’t have much of a holiday atmosphere—which didn’t bother me because the mystery held my attention. I enjoyed how all the pieces came together, and I was surprised by the ending. This is a great mystery for fans who enjoy a character-driven police procedural with layered suspects, relationship drama, and a twisty conclusion!

Today I am delighted to feature a haunted bookshop mystery! This one is definitely on my October TBR!

As a young widow, Penelope moved back to her quaint Rhode Island town to give her young son a safer home and her aunt’s dying bookshop new life. Using her late husband’s insurance money, Pen polished the store into a local treasure. But her updates did more than attract new customers. They roused a dead private eye from his big sleep.

With Pen’s affection for hardboiled detective stories, it’s no surprise she’s developed a fondness for the wisecracking yet oddly likeable spirit. Sure, Jack’s cold spots are exasperating, along with his proclivity for putting noir fiction in the cozy section. But murder was Jack’s business in life, and his PI skills come in awfully handy when the body of an eccentric librarian is found amid the bookshop’s aisles.

For years, Dory jokingly called herself “The Dead Librarian” because of her hobby of collecting and writing local obituaries. Now, in death, she’s discovered with her own eerily pre-written obit. Was it a suicide note? Jack and Pen say no and their certainty takes them from a ghost town’s ancient cemetery to a posh Newport mansion. When another body drops, a mysterious stranger makes Pen a shocking offer, one that may change her life—and Jack’s afterlife. But unless Jack can help Pen prove who “checked out” the librarian, a ruthless killer may close the book on her.

Let the Witch Trial begin . . .

When eighteen-year-old Christian Shaw is found dead in a park, the city of Edinburgh is stunned—and the shock only deepens when police charge her best friends, Eliza Lawson and Isobel Smyth, with the murder. As social media explodes in a tizzy of theories and headlines scream for justice, rumors of bullying are overshadowed by something more wicked and frightening: whispers of dark rituals, feverish obsession, and a teenage pact gone wrong.

When the trial begins, everyone in Edinburgh clamors for a front-row ticket to the show: to look upon the murderous Eliza and Isobel with their own eyes. Everyone, that is, but Matthew Phillips, a respected heart surgeon picked for the jury. But, as the trial unfolds—and the girls’ lawyers offer a surprising and unsettling defense—the reluctant Matthew finds himself questioning everything: the motives, the evidence, even his own judgement. Then he begins to have strange visions of terrifying things—hallucinations he tells himself. After all, witchcraft isn’t real . . . or is it?

Who is telling the truth? Who can be trusted?

And what really happened to Christian Shaw?

PLOT SUMMARY: Ten years after surviving the ruthless social hierarchy of New York’s elite Prescott Academy, scholarship student Hannah Miller is framed for the murder of its former Queen Bee at a glittering alumni gala. To clear her name, she must expose the buried secrets and bitter rivalries that gave everyone a motive.

MY THOUGHTS: This intriguing story unfolds across two timelines: 2016 and 2026.

2016: Hannah Miller moves from Pennsylvania to New York to attend the prestigious Prescott Academy. Here, the teenage children of New York society’s ultra-rich and beautiful people rule the halls, where old money meets new money. Students carry thousand-dollar backpacks, wear pearls and Rolex watches to school, and arrive by chauffeur. At the center of it all are two queen bees, Madison DuPont and Elle Harrington, while the drama is fueled by anonymous Instagram posts reminiscent of 𝘎𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭.

2026: The drama continues when Prescott graduates gather for a glittering gala celebrating the school’s 100th anniversary. But when Madison is murdered, the police suspect Hannah. To clear her name, Hannah must question the key players and uncover what really happened.

Overall, I enjoyed this story with its glimpse into the world of the ultra-rich. The drama moved a little slowly at times, but I remained engaged. The ending came as a bit of a surprise, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. However, if you enjoy 𝘎𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 style drama, I think you’ll enjoy this one.

MY THOUGHTS: I had never heard of Lily Bollinger, but her story is fascinating! (Swipe to see the synopsis.) I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful work of historical fiction, which unfolds across two timelines and is filled with lively banter. One of the timelines takes place during WWII! Thank you @poisonedpenpress for my gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.

PLOT OVERVIEW: A woman, marries a renowned psychologist and moves into his exclusive Beverly Hills home only to discover that he has a dark past and may have been involved in the death of his first wife.

MY THOUGHTS: Natalie Barelli is one of my favorite thriller writers, and her domestic suspense novels always deliver unexpected twists that keep me on the edge of my seat! I particularly enjoyed this novel, where Jodie marries the man of her dreams, and becomes the ideal housewife, only to discover he has a secret. But she has a secret as well. I figured out that twist relatively quickly, but it only heightened my enjoyment as the story unfolded.

I don’t want to reveal too much, but the three main characters are well-developed and relatable. I found myself genuinely liking the characters I was meant to root for and despising those I was meant to dislike. The story features some tense moments that had me holding my breath. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and what I would describe as a thrilling domestic suspense.
