10 ways we use chickens as part of our school curriculum at Infinity Academy @infinity_education.inc

1. Responsibility: Daily feeding, watering and animal care.

2. Math: Counting eggs, measuring feed and tracking production.

3. Literacy: Researching chickens and writing care instructions.

4. Science: Exploring life cycles, anatomy and animal needs.

5. Nutrition: Learning where eggs come from and cooking with them.

6. Gardening: Learning how chicken manure becomes compost to nourish soil.

7. Entrepreneurship: Running a farm stand, pricing eggs, calculating costs and selling them.

8. Health: Exploring how the food we eat fuels our bodies, starting with fresh eggs from our own chickens.

9. Empathy: Recognizing their behaviour and practising gentle handling.

10. Communication: Hosting student-led workshops to teach others about chicken care.

Through project-based learning at @infinity_education.inc, every student chooses a skill they want to learn or improve and then runs a workshop on it.

This workshop is going to be called “How to Stickhandle Like a Pro.” @bauerhockey

They are responsible for practising and improving every day.

They ask questions. Research. Learn from experts. Practice. Fail. Persevere. Set goals. And ultimately, teach what they’ve learned to others.

They’ll create their own workshop, develop a takeaway, market their event, and take responsibility for getting better at their skill.

And we’re assessing so much more than the final product:

👉Leadership. Discipline. Perseverance. Goal setting. Responsibility

These aren’t just words on a classroom wall. Our students actually experience what they mean.

Along the way, we weave in academics—math, human-body science, biographies, research, interviewing, writing, and public speaking skills.

They’re not just learning about something.
They’re taking action and becoming better at it.

The students wanted to build a rink, so we did.

They are taking action, rather than passive task completion.

Our job is to weave in the academics (literacy, math, science, health) and the life skills (discipline, perseverance, collaboration, leadership) through the process.

They are already asking when we can do it again this year.

Having students host a workshop on something they’re passionate about is a great way to start the year and tap into to kids interests while weaving in academics & life skills.
