Dog training has endless possibilities! Serving the Worcester county, MA

What most rective dogs need is to feel safe, and to learn how to regulate themselves. They can't regulate themselves if we're always doing it for them, though! That's really what's giving reactive dogs more freedom boils down to. We can make sure they are safe (and that other people and dogs around us feel safe), AND we can still empower our dogs to have autonomy.

Infinity Canine is expanding!!
In November, not only will you be able to find me at PSP Sudbury, out in random fields, and in your house, but you'll also find me at Fenway Bark Dog Resort in Clinton!! (474A main street at Jack's Mill, Clinton, MA)
I'll be offering the same class list for now, and at the same price as well. @fenwaybarkinc thank you so much for this opportunity, and I am truly looking forward to working here!

Be careful what you train your dog. They might just learn it.
But for real, this can be a great thing to do for your dog!

Just be safe. Make sure you're giving them traction, and make sure they aren't straining or over-exerting themselves. Provide physical support in the beginning if needed. Some dogs will be very enthusiastic and overdo it if you aren't there to slow them down! (For example, Hoku tried to jump onto the ladder the first time he did this 🤦‍♂️)

I can't believe I missed something so simple.

I knew so much about service dog training before I got Ayla. But one thing I didn't find any resources on? Potty training for servcie dogs specifically.
Don't get me wrong, I KNOW how to potty train dogs. She doesn't pee in the house. She doesn't eliminate in public places... And that's actually the problem.
I was so focused on making sure her needs were met before I took her on socialization trips that, as a puppy, she had very few opportunities to use the bathroom away from home. And what I didn't get told by anyone (which feels obvious now) is that I needed to purposefully practice her "getting busy" in unfamiliar situations!
So as of now, she's a pretty wonderful service dog... as long as she's relieved herself at home first. To put it more bluntly, this dog absolutely REFUSES to poop outside of her yard.
I'm pretty happy with everything else I've done in raising and training Ayla. Sure things weren't perfect. I learned some more stuff along the way. But this? I really regret not working more on this when she was a baby. Because it's pretty obnoxious now that it's a firmly set behavior.
I'm working on it. I think it's starting to get better. But I definitely will change how I approach potty training if I get another puppy.

Some people are out here expending a lot of time and energy on completely useless stuff.
Here's my hot take on off-leash heel walking.
I'd like to elaborate that this does NOT apply to service dogs. Some handlers do need their dog to be offleash and that includes being offleash in urban settings.
I'm also not talking about teaching an offleash heel as a temporary state during hikes or other exercise/exploration. That can be useful for safety. This is specifically about heel in a city where that is maintained the whole time.
Also, even though I am adamantly a force-free trainer, this has nothing to do with what training method you use. If you train this without any aversives I still think it is pointless.
To top this off, training this behavior takes a LOT of time and energy. So to me, it's wasting hours of training on something with no purpose.
If you disagree please do say so! I'd love to hear other's opinions on this.

And if you want to learn some actually useful skills, well... I do that for a living 👀

Also I know this meme is super old, but I like it

Do you think dental treats and water additives are a good way to keep your dog's teeth clean? Well guess what... You're right! Depending on which one you're using that is. The Veterinary Oral Health Society (VOHC) is a third party organization that reviews products and the studies/literature around them. If they find that they actually do reduce plaque, tartar, and/or bad breath, they'll award their seal to the product. Find out more at their website https://vohc.org/
This content is not sponsored by or affiliated with the VOHC in any way.

She's fine btw
Sometimes when my dogs are behaving really well or are particularly calm, I get nervous that they have a cold. Mostly I'm paranoid. BUT, here are some easy ways to tell if your dog isn't feeling well!
1. Warm ears (more warm than usual, or even hot) can indicate a fever. If you think they might have a fever, be sure to check their temperature to verify it.
2. A dry nose SOMETIMES indicates dehydration. However, a dog's nose might also be dry if they've been sleeping or if the air is dry. A super wet, dripping nose can also mean your dog has congestion (like a runny nose)
3. Discolored gums can be serious. They can indicate your dog is in shock, is low on oxygen, or is anemic. Sometimes it simply means they're dehydrated. If your dog is acting lethargic and has pale gums, take them to a vet immediately!
Also, this is why cooperative care practices are so important. Ayla was confused but let me mess with her very willingly!

Surprise! My last post was a teaser to THIS post! If you haven't watched the post right before this one, go watch it first and see if you can pick up on what's happening here. I am a professional certified dog trainer with a degree in biology and lab experience in animal behavior research. Here's my analysis of what's going on here!

The very anthropomorphic (humanized) version of this:
Ayla did something rude. She then realized it was rude and apologized. Hoku accepted the apology, and to smooth things over, they play together to show there are "no hard feelings"

Some interesting body language I saw today between my two dogs. What do you notice in that long stare in the beginning? Why didn't Hoku return her play bow, but then played with her anyway? What, if anything, should I have done?

My symptom was a paid actor 😂
I was honored to present with Lee Atherton of Phoenix Rising (find out more here.https://phoenixrising-sdsl.com/about-phoenix-rising-service-dogs-saving-lives/ ). She provides valuable resources for people looking for service dogs, and works to educate the public about service dogs.
Ayla helped give a perfect demonstration of how symptoms don't always look obvious to an outsider. But our dogs know!

This Saturday at @boltonspringfarm Ayla and I have the incredible opportunity to present with Lee Atherton of Phoenix Rising. This is an advocacy group centered around educating the public about service dogs, and making them more financially accessible to those who need them.
We will be presenting about service dogs, of course! Our presentation is at 3:15pm. Find out more here https://www.farmfreshevents.com/tales-tails-ales
I hope to see yall there!
