I swear, all the most brilliant ideas are ridiculously simple. But the final result still surprises me every time.

My bathroom smells amazing!! And it doesn’t shed.

Last week my dear friend Martina came from Italy to visit us in Lithuania (so happy!!). She was sitting in my workshop, spotted a bunch of fresh lavender lying on the table, and in just a few minutes she braided it and hung it in my bathroom.

A few days later… I couldn’t believe the smell. Just one bunch of lavender can fill the whole bathroom with such a beautiful scent.

And the best part? It doesn’t shed at all. That’s really important to me because I’d love to keep these with my wool. They smell wonderful and help protect it from moths.

Genius. Thanks, Martina. #lavenderwands #lavenderscent #lavendersticks by @ingaburebure

I really wanted to write about the craftsmen at the Kernavė Living Archaeology Festival. About the archaeologists who bring the work of long-gone artisans back to life. About all that incredible knowledge, patience, and skill.
But the person who impressed me the most was 11-year-old Uršulė and her little team.
And there is a lovely irony in that.
At a festival created to admire the work of ancient, long-gone masters, and to celebrate the knowledge of archaeologists who recreate it, I found myself completely fascinated by a young person standing right in front of me — a future craftswoman, I hope.
A group of children of different ages, including a boy called Daumantas, set up next to our bird enclosure. People first noticed the hats Uršulė was weaving from maple leaves. But very quickly it was not only the hats anymore — it was watching her work.
She was focused. Calm. Precise. Her fingers moved so quickly and confidently that I simply could not stop watching. She worked like a real craftswoman.
And judging by the faces around me, I was not the only one fascinated.
The next day, the whole gang came over to my table and confidently announced that they wanted to learn felting.
Within about an hour they had learned to make felt balls, a coaster, a phone sleeve… and by the end they were already making a felted hat.
How?!
Who are these incredible kids?
I sincerely hope Uršulė never gives up making things with her hands. Because with talent like hers, if she keeps nurturing it, she could become an absolutely extraordinary artisan.

Everyone asked how to start, so this is how I do it.

First, I make a small loop. Later, the finished wreath can be connected to this loop. I tuck the stems neatly under the folded leaves, first placing them behind the bent stem of the last leaf.

As you continue weaving, you can secure each stem the same way and hide it under the next folded leaves. This makes the wreath stronger and neater, but it takes a little longer. Or you can simply leave the stems sticking out.

You can make a crown, a round wreath, or leave it as a long strip to decorate a door, table edge, or make a long garland.

It is really quick to weave. I used ordinary maple leaves, but any larger leaves with long, flexible stems should work.

And tiny maple leaves make the sweetest little wreaths.

Happy weaving! #leafweaving #mapleleaf #gardenpartydecor #gardenpartywedding #diywreath taken in Lithuania by @ingaburebure

Weaving leaf garlands, wreaths, hats or even mats is possible with so many different leaves, not just maple.

I really hope you find trees in your part of the world that are perfect for weaving. Take a walk in your local forest or park. You might discover something unexpectedly beautiful.

In this video, I used Japanese katsura, northern red oak, aspen and maple leaves. All these trees grow here in Lithuania, in the temperate climate zone.

I never knew falling leaves could be so loud. But you have to be somewhere really quiet to hear them. The noise of everyday life drowns them out.

Sunday morning. Autumn mist softens the edges of the world. Nature feels like a sanctuary. Just a few minutes here, and the peace stays with you all day. Maybe even all week.

I could make a roof for a kids’ playhouse with these maple leaves. Or a nice wall decoration or table covering.

Introducing my latest felt boots. Animal fur patterns are my new obsession in felting. I just love when felt looks like real fur, especially when I can brush it out and make it all fluffy.

A simple oak leaf garland that naturally twists as you weave it. You can use green, autumn or even dried leaves. Easy to make, lasts a long time, and looks beautiful as a natural decoration.

Such a practical little project, and so quick to felt! You can make it in a classic shape or as an autumn maple leaf.

You can even use Easter egg dyes to give it beautiful autumn colours!

All you need is a maple leaf, soap, a wooden stick, a little dye, vinegar to set the colour, and 80 g of wool that felts quickly and forgives mistakes. Our BureBure Tyrolean wool is exactly that!
