The Azores, group of nine volcanic islands in the North Atlantic Ocean in Portugal, have a fascinating geological history shaped by tectonic activity.

Many of the islands, like São Miguel, have massive volcanic craters that have since filled with water to form stunning lagoons, such as Lagoa do Fogo and Sete Cidades. These crater lakes are some of the most beautiful features of the Azores, and they reflect the volcanic origins of the islands.

*Sete Cidades*, the twin lakes nestled in the caldera of an ancient volcano. The air was cooler now, but the scenery was just as stunning. The path along the rim of the crater provided a breathtaking view of the two lakes—one emerald, the other a rich sapphire blue.

Lagoa do Fogo, which translates to “Lake of Fire,” is situated within the caldera of an active stratovolcano. The lake was formed by volcanic activity thousands of years ago, with the eruption of the Fogo Volcano.

The caldera, with its steep cliffs and deep basin, was created as a result of the collapse of the volcano after a series of eruptions. Over time, the caldera filled with water, creating the lake that exists today.

First time arrive in “AUCKLAND” but amaze how it looks like her big sister “SYDNEY”, I really make great observation….
Auckland and Sydney are indeed sister cities in a way, both being major urban centers in the Asia Pacific region. They share some similarities in their modern Architecture, iconic landmarks, waterfronts, shops, boutiques, supermarkets and cultural attraction. However Auckland has its own charm with its rich Maori heritag, stunning natural landscape and breathtaking sunset.
