I am so proud of my old Art School. ❤️🖤💚🇵🇸🪁Join the PSO@Mandela University and Angels for Gaza on Saturday 12th September to make some kites for Palestine! Guided by Kader Abdulla, we will design and decorate paper kites with our messages of solidarity for the people of Palestine.

The workshop will be held at the Art School (K Block) on North Campus, Summerstrand. Arrive 12:30 to start at 13:00, and we’ll finish up by 15:00.

Later in September, we will gather at the beachfront to fly our kites together.

Time to move on to completing more work that has been squirreled away, for far too long. These two will have to wait patiently for framing. Inspired by the writing of Suzanne Cesaire and the Surrealists who found themselves in Martinique, en route to New York, I doodled, scribbled, cut and carried these pieces and more, back and forth between Grenada and South Africa. Endlessly, packing and unpacking these pieces, struggling to settle them into place. Finally, in the foothills of the Sani Pass, I have found a little corner where it has been possible to get this piece ready for framing. It is 81cm x 112cm, mixed media, pen and ink on cut and reassembled paper. by @ingridnewmanart

EARTH PIGMENT SERIES

The smaller 40 × 30 × 4 cm works are studies for a larger body of work. Each painting explores colour, texture and composition before being developed into larger-scale pieces for contemporary interiors. As the series evolves, selected works will be reimagined at architectural scale while remaining true to the original composition.

My creative journey begins with the earth beneath my feet.

Using handmade earth pigments, natural oxides and an artist-made sculpting medium on canvas, I create mixed media works inspired by the landscapes of the Southern Drakensberg and the wider South African landscape. Through sculpting, layering and mark-making, I explore the colours, textures and geological history that have shaped these places over deep time.

Every painting begins with the landscape itself. The earth becomes both my material and my subject, transforming the colours of the land into contemporary works that celebrate place, memory and the enduring relationship between geology and art.

The earth is my palette.
