Hands out the window,
rain falling on my hair.
Flushing all my memories
from my mouth, into my hands
—slipping right through my fingers,
falling to the earth.
Keeping myself alive,
believing in angels, extasis.
Give it back to me.
I’m hoping for Mother to remind me,
in the future,
when I need it,
with a whisper of air,
of all these times I’ve felt alive,
I’ve felt like one.

Tossing my memories in a blender,
Hoping the substance makes it easier to focus,
But the taste, it lingers, rigid, in my gut.
Music blasting everywhere, the bloody feet,
Tears in my eyes, singing my heart out,
And wearing it on my lips.

The culture of love,
kiss me in the subway,
or in that corner over there,
below the jacarandas.
Oh what a beautiful tree,
but just like me, he doesn’t belong here,
in the land of thin-skinned humankind.
I am jealous of this place and such is he,
since where we come from

let themselves feel this way.
What a beautiful street,

Damn, man, play that thing
Makes me think of summer winds
And places that I know
Just the ones I love to go
☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎ ☀︎
Back in my land,
water pouring hard on me,
drowning my heart in winter sorrows,
two months left until summer,
I crawl with my bare hands,
nails, fingers, and all,
to snatch a feeling of dry heat,
filling my pockets with rays of light
from those days when the sun hardly peaks
through the clouds,
just to keep me occupied through December,
when I’ll be perpetually content,
daydreaming of having everything I want,
restless to see my foreign friends again,
and when the goddess drops the first tear,
I’ll be desperate to feel my feet lifted from the ground,
back to the place where a piece of my heart breathes,
chasing sunshine for all eternity.

I’m back in town,
where once was innocent.
As my friend’s babies play in front of me,
the sun sets on the horizon,
reflecting its silhouettes
on the lake that once refreshed my soul.
Her man, strong as a lumberjack,
gathered the wood,
set the fire.
She is looking at him,
mesmerized,
the same as before,
but with her baby on my lap,
swinging under a giant tree.
He smiles at me,
takes my thumbs with his tiny hands,
shows me his beloved places,
breathtaking.
A tiny tear slides down my cheek,
while I see the world in brighter colors.
They take him to dream,
and then we dance around the fire.
We become one under the moon,
and I pray to have all of this,
fingers crossed so tight it hurts.
Please, let me be a father someday,
let me experience this kind of purest love,
love that feels like a summer kiss.
Let me live long enough to see him grow,
so he can get to know my kids,
and let me sing more songs with her,
with them, in the car.
