❤️ SALBAHE CREW 🇵🇭 The @inherpurpose fam showed up and showed loved for @forgottenislandmovie ! We laughed, we cried, and we enjoyed this epic moment together watching our culture on the big screen. We share the same sentiments as @socalfilipinos : WE NEED TO SHOW UP FOR FORGOTTEN ISLAND. Today is the final day of opening weekend, and if you’ve been meaning to see the film, this is the time to do it. Don’t wait for next weekend, and don’t assume you’ll catch it when it comes to streaming. Go see it in a theater while it matters most.

Opening weekend is one of the clearest ways audiences can demonstrate that a film matters to them. Every ticket is a signal that there is an audience for Filipino stories-and that we want to see more of them on the big screen.
We talk a lot about representation, but representation only grows when audiences support the stories that are actually being made. Forgotten Island is an opportunity for us to show what can happen when our community comes together and makes the effort to fill the seats.
So text your family group chat. Call your friends. Grab your barkada and make plans for today. If you’ve already seen it, bring someone who hasn’t. If you were waiting for the right time, this is the day.

Because we can’t say we want Filipino stories to compete at the box office and then stay home when one of those stories is in theaters.

Let’s show up. Let’s fill the theaters. Let’s show the industry that there is a Filipino audience ready to support our stories. Opening weekend ends tonight. Go see Forgotten Island!

💓 Seeing Filipino-Americans on the big screen in the mainstream was beyond amazing! We are so grateful we got to witness this in our lifetime! This is a must see when it hits theaters on September 25th!

I followed the socal_pinoy account. Then I unfollowed.

I wanted to know who was behind a page that speaks to Filipino Americans as if it were part of our community. The answer led to a much larger commercial media ecosystem reaching millions of people across Southern California.

The story is bigger than one Instagram account. It is about who controls the channels shaping Filipino American attention and who benefits from the audience being built.

Thank you to @socalfilipinos and @inherpurpose for sharing your thoughts. Your perspectives as Filipino community builders in Southern California were invaluable in helping me understand what this network looks like from inside the community these accounts claim to serve.

In his words: “I was able to connect it back to my mural along EDSA in Manila in the Philippines & bridging the gaps I’ve always longed to connect being a part of the Diaspora. Celebrating the rich culture and history of the @somapilipinas area, it’s fitting that it ties multiple woven patterns of the connected cultures that inhabit the area along with fabrics and tattoo patterns from all over the Philippines. When I was 11 years old, I was a young AAPI (Asian American, Pacific Islander) youth in the Filipino Youth Coalition program with my mentor @keptabsorbed with not many murals or spaces that i could see myself or my cultural ties reflected, except one mural on Lapu Lapu Street titled Lipi Ni Lapu Lapu, depicting Filipino and Filipino-American heroes and notable individuals, & that just set me on my path to want to create art on walls to uplift the community and the culture. Now almost 30 years later, my dreams are reality, and I’ve been able to bring that idea and life long milestone to fruition, and I feel so full and hopeful knowing that AAPI youth can walk around and see familiar elements, faces, patterns, and themselves on the wall of the city. It took decades of traveling and learning and sharing my energy and art to be able to share these experiences through my art and murals and I hope it resonates with the people, the city, the community, the neighborhood and the passerby’s and that it becomes a contact point into something visually uplifting and enlightening.”

Team Philippines 14u are your 2026 International World Series Champions! Philippines is definitely on a roll! ♥️💙💛

These incredible girls gave everything they had on the field while proudly representing the Philippines. Many of them traveled all the way from the Philippines, and now they get to return home as International World Series Champions.

It was such an honor for our 14u Fil-Am girls to stand alongside these amazing athletes and represent our culture together. Moments like these are bigger than softball, they’re about pride, unity, and representing where we come from.

Congratulations, champions! Thank you for allowing us to be part of this unforgettable journey.
